quote:This. He's not the sexiest option and probably not the best, but he is essentially Tom Herman version 1.0. OC under Meyer and succeeding at his first head coaching job. I would say it's harder to win in the SEC West at Mississippi St. than it is at Houston given the latter's strength of schedule.
He's not A-list but we could do a lot worse.
I think Herman would be the better hire, but everything Herman has in terms of pedigree, Mullen had first. To lionize one and not consider the other is foolish IMO.

Spot on! He knows the SEC landscape (competition), and how to recruit in the SEC West. He was a very successful OC at Utah and UF. Put him in the right place, with the right tools - facilities, recruiting base, coaches, fans, etc. - and he'll be successful. I too agree Herman should be #1 on the list, but Mullen's name should be near the top as a very realistic candidate.
My take:
1. Herman
2. Jimbo
3. Mullen

Mullen could be just as good as Herman with more talent than he has at State

So why didn't UF even give him a sniff

And do not forget, he will have the resources at LSU to keep his coordinators on staff and not have to start from scratch each season.

Mullen has tutored several notable quarterbacks Alex Smith (Utah), Josh Harris (Bowling Green), Chris Leak (Florida), Heisman Trophy-winner Tim Tebow (Florida), and Dak Prescott (Mississippi State). Not bad...

Dan Mullen would be Miles 2.0, no thank you!!

Mullen is a good fit for MS State, but he would get chewed up and spit out in Baton Rouge. While I like an emotional coach instead of one that acts all calm and collected, Mullen seems to have too many "deer in the headlights" moments at the end of games.. . . LSU has had enough of that itself recently.

Maybe he's just mimicking our quarterbacks

I would take Mullen over Fisher all day.

When saying Mullen developed Z.Prescott, consider that he had him for 4 yrs. He only had one great season. Like the different opinions here, were Alleva to hire him, you would get one huge BLAH from half the fans at least.
