D. Walker

As a resident of the left coast, I can assure you Walker is not universally praised even amongst the low expectations of the UCLA fanbase. He's gotten almost all of his mileage out of an upset of USC three damn years ago. His D has gotten blown out quite a few times since then.
Chavis and Walker are both upgrades, but Walker isn't a savior, and might not be better than Bo P.

Well if we have even a chance to have a better D than we had under Pelini then sign him up now.

i would have thought that ucla did not have the athletes but i was wrong. They have recruited quite well LINK
virginia tech by comparison has had shite for recruiting and have done great.

Walker will have a lot more talent here compared to UCLA. He is a great hire and, in many people's opinions, better than Chavis.

he will have "more talent" but not by much. Ucla recruited defense very well.

Emperor had this one right.
This guy is unproven and UCLA's defense has been mediocre for 3 years, in a conference where offenses are not very good overall.
Somebody started the entire Walker lovefest and everyone has just gotten on board like lemmings off a cliff.
You query 9 out of 10 people on here who "love" Walker and I bet they can't tell you jack about what he has accomplished. Funny how that works.
Chavis is the answer. I hope we get him.

Yeah I knew about last year's class, but they actually did do ok every 2 years it seems before that. Lotta Houston and NO kids, I think Bienemy was doing a lotta that.

2006 10 **** 2 ***** 13***
2008 13 **** 11 ***
2007 6 **** 5 ***
2005 mostly 3 stars.
sure lsu will have more talent, but i think he had enough to do better then he did, If he is so great as many say.
I would still like to have him. He is highly regaurded. But would rather chavis.

We should copare that to Tenn. recruits fro the same years. Perhaps add an allowance for SEC vs. PAC10?
We can then send our choice to CLM!

I think looking at recruits in 2003,2004, and 2005 are the most relevant years to look at for his defenses of 2006, 2007, and 2008, In those years, I listed the recruiting on defense was pretty weak.

Total Recruits (Offense and Deffense) are as follows:
LSU Tenn UCLA
5* 4* 3* 2*/ 5* 4* 3* 2*/ 5* 4* 3* 2*
2008 2 11 13 0 / 0 4 11 2 / 0 12 11 0
2007 2 19 5 0 / 5 11 15 1 / 0 6 4 0
2006 2 12 11 0 / 1 4 13 4 / 0 7 13 2
2005 1 7 5 0 / 1 16 9 0 / 1 3 12 5
Commitments
2009 3 11 5 1 / 0 7 9 0 / 0 7 9 1
Looks like Tennessee's 2007 class was a MONSTER. Lane and Monte might have something to work with. UCLA has some talent but looks comparable to bottom tier SEC.

I understand D. Walker's achievements. I've looked at both Chavis and Walker history and I've seen both defenses in action. Admittedly, I've seen Chaivs a lot more and I'm just not sold on his soft type defense. Hes definitely a upgrade but the way LSU got burned last year and this year was because of this same soft philosophy. I don't want to constantly see LSU getting torched consistently on 3rd downs, I want someone who is aggressive, gets in the head of the QB and doesn't let him recover the entire game. Like our old Saban defenses, once you clean their clock out, they remember it the entire game. Not the, "lets sit 15 yards off the ball and give a free catch to the receivers", IMO.
With that being said, I'll take either one but I'd prefer Walker now. I like who he was tutored under too, some pretty big names.
