Thinking UAB should have kept Watson Brown shows me how little you know.

Why the frick are bama fans flaming a UAB coaching candidate thread?

With a good coach? Yes. UAB should have had Jimbo Fisher, someone didn't want that to happen.

He at least had the program around .500 each year. As I said, he wasn't a great coach by any stretch, but he was getting things done behind the scenes. Maybe that's why he was pushed out, I don't know.

Yea like recruiting thugs that never went to class, which is why UAB recruits now have to have a 20+ on their ACT to play.

No reason to raise that requirement. I had an elective at Alabama that had a bunch of athletes from all sports in there. Three people took roll every day. The class TA took it for the professor, an athletic academic advisor took it just for the football players, and another athletic academic advisor took roll for all other athletes.

Fan support (and money) must come before they will get a stadium. It starts with a winning product on the field, and that won't happen when they aren't on a level playing field with other C-USA schools. Their next coach needs to make that part of his contract negotiations.

Yea that's what I was saying, fricking dumbass. I said the stadium would make money every year. every report they did before the presented it, or were going to present showed it would at worst be revenue neutral.

no, they had donors who said they would pay yearly not up front. then something happens like... oh I don't know... a recession... then you are in a situation where the BOD has to find a way to pay a contract bloated contract for a program that loses money. If UAB was self sustainable they could have hired Jimbo.

Naming rights to a stadium right off I-65 are a little more than a billboard.

You think it was UAB's choice to hire Neil Callaway?

Cowboys Stadium is still looking for naming rights. Auburn's arena is still looking for them. It took the Jets/Giants over a year to find them for Met Life Stadium. It's going to be hard for UAB to get them in this economy. However, getting them upfront would REALLY help their case for a stadium.

Let the record show...I am 100% in favor of UAB getting their stadium....as long as the BOT does not have to take any money from the actual UA/UAB/UAHuntsville academic side to pay for it. At this point UAB has not proven they can. And no, a study saying they can is not proof. Studies have been wrong before (Hello Visionland, the Birmingham Dome, etc)
