Supposedly he contacted Blank on behalf of Ark for permission to interview Petrino and was turned down. Ark went ahead with the interview anyway.

Broyles claimed in an article that Jerry facilitated most of the deal actually and thanks to his frienship with Blank the deal happened. this of course is a direct contradiction of some other reports.

listening to fox sports radio and they said Jones had asked for permission and Blank said no.
If so, that is tampering.
at several levels.

No... the Falcons GM already stated that that is not possible because Jones did not contact him as an NFL owner. Give up....

Of course, I think the Commish gets to say whether you are always working in the capacity of an owner. And, on this level, involving the head coach, I don't think the I-wasn't-working-in-my-owner-capacity flies.

They are not going to sanction the Dallas Cowboys... wrong or not, they are not going to do it.

It depends on how ticked Blank is. Do not forget that Blank is a long term, well respected owner who has a lot of stroke with the other owners. Tampering with the hiring process like this was not right and Jones should have stayed out of the process. Something tells me it will be addressed in some way because the NFL owners have got to be getting tired of this.

If Petrino had been hired by the Cowboys, a PRO team, there would be case for tampering charges.
Since Petrino took a COLLEGE job, NFL tampering charges do not apply.

Blank said he has no reason to believe that Jones was involved in Petrino's sudden resignation, and McKay said NFL tampering rules don't apply to college jobs anyway. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league didn't have enough information to comment.

don't be surprised if they change that rule. Especially since Falcons were in same conference.

Is it just me, or is Jerry Jones getting a little loopy?
