Did he really turn it down? Was it ever offered?

I had read that in late Nov 2007 the BOT at UM had approved a contract be offered if the opportunity to offer Miles arose...a contact of one the Board members leaked the accounts of the BOT meeting to Herbstreit, who ran with it and ASSUMED Miles had been offered and accepted pending BOT approval...so um2007, which is it? I certainly believe you have accurate knowledge of how it went down...

id hate to see what lsu might end up with if not.

And if Michigan took Les later, the pickings could be really skinny for us.

I'm no insider, and don't have any contacts, nor do I claim to, but from what I understand from people that actually do, he was offered or at the very least was going to be offered. There are some up here who feel he never was going to be and flat out never was. I really have no idea. Nothing definitive confirming or denying either side has come to light so we never really will know the full truth. I have always been under the impression though that he was offered, the information leaked, and he decided to stay at LSU. Either way, you can formulate an opinion as to why he wouldn't be asked to coach at UofM from either standpoint. a) he already turned us down once so why would we ask again? b) we never wanted him in the first place so why would we want him now? Aside from other reasons such as him being older, having to revamp the program blah blah blah I think that should pretty much cover why LSU fans should not be worried about him leaving.

I think Les was offered, but as soon as LSU won that SEC championship game and all that crazy stuff happened to put Les into the MNC game, there was no way he could have taken the Michigan job. You don't take another job when you are preparing for a BCS title game. Even Brian Kelly said he wouldn't have taken the ND job if Cinci made the MNC game.

I think the Michigan fan base is lukewarm on Les, but probably prefers him over Rich Rod at this point.

Didn't Les say he was staying prior to the SECCG?

I agree with this. However, I don't understand why Michigan fans scoff at Miles as a potential head coach after Harbaugh passes. Michigan is not where they were 10 years ago. They need a good coach that can start rebuilding the program by recruiting, staying clean and winning games. RR brings one of those. Miles brings all three

The Michigan alums I've spoken with say it will be Harbaugh. BTW, Michigan was undefeated in 2006 going into the Ohio State game. Remember, there were some that wanted a Ohio State-Michigan rematch in the National Championship game and not Florida-Ohio State.

7 Moves I think you are right on target. Del Rio's wife has ties to Baton Rouge and he wanted the job when Saban Left and Skip would not wait for the NFL season to end. Skip saved money so he could be paid to raise funds which I for one still waiting to hear and see what funds he raised.

Thats what I'm hearing too. And just overall, people with no inside info want him. Even firm RR supporters say if we can get him go for it, otherwise they are fine with RR for another year.

What a difference a year makes though. Reading through some of my posts from last year I thought no way in hell Harbaugh would ever be considered as an option for what he had said about UofM. So many former alum were really pissed over the situation and said they would never forget. I understood why it would piss people off, but I didn't find the comments to be so offensive because they for the most part are probably true. Now, the only name you hear up here is Harbaugh. Glad people are finally to a point where they are looking past it, whether we end up with him or not. He's always been one to run his mouth, but the thing is he backs it up. I would LOVE to see a whats your deal moment between him and Dantonio haha.

The challenge with Les Miles in 2007 was he was going to the SEC title game and possibly to the NC. Bill Martin, not the guy you want picking coaches for you by the way, should have just asked. But, he waited for the "moment" post SEC title game when he felt it would be more appropriate. That kind of news cannot be kept quiet, just too jucicy, and the UM Ath. Dept has had big information leaks in it for a while (Brandon has cleaned that all up, right quick as you can see by the lack of news on this decision). The news leaked prior to the SEC Champ game, LSU put on a great defense (new, rich contract), UM was lef to admit or deny. They said nothing! Bad PR move. Les could only say he "loved that school (UM)" but could also only say he was staying at LSU because they were the only tangible offer on the table. Fiasco. Brandon may not pick the right guy either, but he will pull the trigger with full confidence he will get his guy, and there will be no "backseat" driving by the fans, alums, or media. For that, at least, I give he credit, even if I don't like it as a fan.

I don't get the whole "Harbaugh said about UM.." objection. He was a student athlete, for his own experience he felt his student development was not handled correctly and commented on it. I can assure you Bo would have only taken exception with the public airing of the issue, not the issue itself. And the flap would have died quickly had not Jaime Morris, great player and UM AD member, not fanned the flames. He was fired by Brandon for inappropriate use of UM property and is selling cars in some town west of AA today. JH has kept his mouth shut since, produced a winning program and is now a "hot coaching" property.

I totally agree with what you're saying. Although, I believe he and Jamie Morris are on speaking terms again. Again, Harbaughs comments never personally bothered me, though I understand why it would bother others. Just glad to see peoples opinions of him up here are changing. I think he would be great for the program. Restore the rivalry against OSU, and put MSU back in their place.

RE MICH job:

"With all that is going on in preparation for your bowl matchup with Va Tech and being mentioned for the Michigan job and going to the NFL how do you keep your focus?"

"I have two areas to focus on and that is the game and the birth of his 5th child expected this coming Monday."

I'm not saying Harbaugh wouldn't go to Michigan, but wouldn't Michigan want a coach longer than a couple of years before he bolted to the NFL?

Best case for Michigan would be to fire RichCock, offer Miles HC position for roughly 7 years while Harbaugh scratched his NFL itch, and then brought in Harbaugh to replace Miles.

Is it safe to say that Miles WILL be back next yr in P&G?

Why would he leave...he can't believe how successful he has been here and probably is smart emough to know he couldn't do it again if he tried at Michigan...just sayin'.
