Kiffin has been described as radioactive on this board. Got me thinking about how LSU might be viewed.

As far as the elite coaches go, could LSU be viewed as radioactive as long as current leadership is in place?

Anyone with sources have a clue?

Les Miles was at LSU for 12 years. There are a grand total of 3 current coaches that have been at their programs longer.

No sources. But here is how I see that scenario. If the media in general is on target and what they are saying about LSU is representative of how the people that really matter, namely other coaches, then yes- LSU is toxic.

Is the media painting an accurate and comprehensive picture? Do they in general do enough research to consider all points of view? Nah. I don't think anyone here will say that is the case.

So... how do the people that matter, the people that LSU wants to talk to, view the current situation in general (Admin, boosters, team, recruiting, pay, etc) and how we got here. Not horrible, but not good. I'm willing to bet that firing Miles isn't an issue (which is what most media has a problem with). Is the firing mid-season and issue? Yeah. But many of the coaches know enough about the situation to know why LSU did it. So only a slight negative. The bigger concern for another HC looking in from the outside would be the fiasco at the end of last year. That's what makes LSU toxic; not horribly, but enough of a concern where coaches with options (the really good ones that we want) will shy away from a situation where you have school administrators (F King), athletic admin (Alleva), a HC (Miles), and it now appears much of the rest of the staff all pulling in different directions. Some for selfish reasons. Then add to the mix interference/influence from state politicians.

I fear that will keep the homeruns away. Yeah they'll talk, they'll interview, they'll see how much $$ LSU is willing to fork out. But they will laser in on any reason not to take the job and they probably won't be seeking LSU out.

Concerned because Alleva says he is in charge of it

Whomever they eventually hire will have the admin by the balls, winning brings the boosters in line

You can ignore the resources and talent available at LSU

Thanks for the reply. Those are my thoughts too, but I don't matter.

Whether you like Alleva or not, or no matter what you think of the job he's doing/has done the alternative is much messier and we would have a much lower chance of success. More than likely end up with turnstile coaches, like USC.

The alternative is to have the big boosters steering it in the direction of "their guy". Some as individuals, some as small groups or cliques. Some would go to people like F King to steer, others to Alleva, still others to Perry and TAF. Then you'd have rogue boosters contacting agents and maybe even coaches directly to "gauge interest" (some think this happened with Jimbo at the end of last year).

LSU does a pretty good job of keeping boosters in check. At least they force their influence through a filter. In this case, Alleva is that filter.

Might not be the best, but it is the best of available scenarios. Now if 2 or 3 years from now Alleva has gotten us into turnstile coaches, he's gone. With great power comes great responsibility... and in his case great consequences.

You've given the best and most honest answers regarding our situation, IMO.

Thanks.

I guess I could've ETA'd previous post, but anyway...

It's worth mentioning for those who don't trust Alleva to make the right/good decision on this there is another factor, and unlike a booster he's most definitely acting in an official capacity and that would be LSU's new GM, Austin Thomas. I know there's not a whole lot out there on him, but his knowledge and decision making ability regarding the "people landscape" is impeccable. He is probably only officially an adviser to Alleva on this, but he would be THE adviser. He may be doing the bulk of the due diligence and Alleva going on that; or, it may be a 2 headed dragon approach with Alleva having final/veto power. Don't know what exactly. They are and will continue to keep that hush hush, for some very good reasons, I assume. But I'm willing to bet Austin is deeply involved in some way. If he's not, then that will be the root of Alleva's errors here.
