Yes he did. Not sure I buy Carr not being involved with this turn of events. Interesting that Martin does the contract first and then interviews. Makes sense though since Les wouldn't come out and deny interest in UM until today.

I just don't think the timing was right. Kirk and ESPN screwed it for him. He most likely would have met with Martin and UM folks tomorrow or Monday and gotten the deal done with them.

Still, he could have taken the easy way out and said no comment to Tracy Wolfson and everyone else, and then interviewed with Martin on Monday, but he realized that wasn't right.

Yeah.
On one hand, I'm glad he didn't leave. When I woke up and saw the reports he was taking the job this a.m., I was sad.
I'm glad he stayed, but on the other hand, I kinda feel sorry for him because I know how much he wanted to go to Michigan. Had ESPN not reported that, he'd be coaching Michigan come next week.

Any chance Les does a 180? Doesn't seem likely after watching the post-game PC. Someone at Mich screwed him bigtime.

not so fast my friend. I truly believe that he recognized that this is his new home. His family is happy and secure, and LSU offers as much as any program can offer any coach.

I agree. At least he sacraficed his dream. I think he knew how the rumors hurt the team last week and he knew they were hurting the team this morning and would have affected them in the game.
I would have been upset had he left. But I gotta say I have a hell of a lot of respect for him. And I hope the BCS gods smile on him.
He's earned a lot of chips from me and I won't forget what he did if the team goes through hard times in the future. I hope none of us do.

How is that possible? Did the Espn rumor mess up something for Miles, that for many, was a forgone conclusion? Did the LSU Mafia simply buy Miles?
I just can't believe that a media report forced his hand like that. I mean your talking a major job move. Family, money, career - all that crap -in a split decision because of a news report that for all intents and purposes was simply stating the obvious?
Something smells fishy about the whole thing.

As hard as it is to belive in this day and age, I think he just really loved this team and felt a responsibility to this group of seniors and knew that the rumors, along with all the crazyness of the last couple of weeks were affecting them and hurting their chances to win.

Carr screwed the pooch on this deal. He obviously did not want Miles to get the job or he would not have announced his retirement when he did. If he is such a class guy and has Michigan's best interest at heart he would have put whatever issues he has with Miles aside and swallowed his pride. If whoever Michigan hires does not continue the winning tradition Carr should accept a lot of the blame. IMO
