Dave Aranda is not the big fish. Sorry to disappoint you guys going all in for him.

Same play here. Lincoln Riley smoke gets the Big12 and National guys looking one way while he locks up Dave Aranda.
The issue with your logic is that we don't need a smoke screen to target Aranda.

Riley is not a smokescreen.
You don’t offer the highest contract in NCAA history as a smokescreen.
Damn.

I actually think there was sincere interest between Woodward and Casey…and at some point along the way they both realized it simply wasn’t gonna happen.
I don’t think Casey was a “smokescreen”… it was sincere communication/inquiries.
If there was a smokescreen(s), it was Vitello and obviously Bianco.

Could be, the idea has been out there that Woody wants a offensive guy. That idea or thought came from somewhere. Could it have been floated with Woody's blessing to further muddy the trail so all the Tonto's out there can't follow the real candidate.

I don’t think Riley is a smokescreen. I think we are legitimately after him.
But if he is a smokescreen, they’re after someone equally big or better, and that list is very very small (Saban, Dabo, Kelly)

I can't see a young man Riley's age walking away from what is basically generational wealth in 8 years.

Maybe-
You get OU to commit to Riley for a log time and pay a lot more than they want
My thought is if you want Aranda just go hire him

quote:Yep, the baseball search wasn't misdirection. SW went after a few guys before JJ and ended up working his way to JJ. IMO, that gives me increased confidence that even if he doesn't land Riley, he won't panic and hire our DL coach. He'll work through his list diligently and hire a really good coach still.
People keep bringing up the baseball search as evidence that Riley is somehow all misdirection.
When Woodward was at A&M, all the smoke for the entire month of November was around Jimbo. And, in the end, it ended up being Jimbo.
There is a lot more smoke here for Riley than there was for many of the baseball candidates. I'd say this is genuine and that Riley has been Woodward's guy for a while.
