Jimmy Hyams @JimmyHyams
UT offered LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis the DC job at over $1 million a year. He declined. Chavis coached at UT from 1989-2008.

I hope we ink him to a long term extension and raise.

Even if he wanted to return, who is going to hitch their wagon to that horse right now? Dooley may very well be gone this time next year.

Did UT actually offer Chavis? I feel it's more likely that Hyams is just wrong.

Wouldn't be the first time he was wrong. If they did, why would he come back? He probably holds a grudge given the circumstances.

Huge understatement. I'm not even sure he has any significant connections now that Fulmer is gone.

Hyams is the only one reporting this.. and he's the least reliable UT media guy there is.

Knoxville Folks need to give it up. Chavis isn't ever coming back to Knoxville. Unless it was HEAD COACH and I dont' see Chavis as the back slapping, go play Golf and hit the Alumni dinners that goes with being a head coach. The guy has got one of the top three gigs in the country for a Defensive Coordinator. Why in the world would he want to leave and come back home to that mess that is going on now? I have a feeling unless something drastic happens, he will retire in Baton Rouge. The guy is 55 ( which isn't THAT OLD)..why would he want to take on some rebuilding challenge?

Hyams is literally the biggest laughing stock who covers UT sports.

I wouldn't believe him if he told me he was on fire after I poured gas on him and lit a match.

Why in the HELL would he leave LSU for a lateral move, especially UTk? The guy has it made. Only way I see him leaving is for a HC position, but he's turned a few of those down in the past as well. I think he's ok where he is.

Note...didn't read the post from StevieRayVol...very similar. My fault,

Hubbs just said Chavis and Tennessee both told him the report is not correct.

No. Hyams was just wrong as usual. I'm not sure if he has contacts in the AD that lie to him for their own amusement, or if he just takes acid and says what comes to mind. Either way, he's wrong far, far more often than he is right, and even then he's probably just getting lucky.

In terms of overall programs, what's to laugh about? Yes, LSU has been better for the last few years. That doesn't change the fact that UT has the money, tradition, and historical success to make most believe they'll be back. I think the original post was talking about that and not recent success. At least I hope he was.
