Charlie Strong pre-Texas resume vs. Tom Herman's current resume

Both won the AAC and beat a Florida team in a NY6 bowl as an underdog.
Both took over a downtrodded AAC team that was not living up to potential.
Both were successful coordinators for Urban Meyer.
Both followed up their AAC title with a disappointing season, although Louisville only lost one game, at home to eventual champ UCF, instead of 2 like Houston has this year.
The only difference is that Herman found success right away, and it took Strong a couple of 7-6 seasons to get going, but many will say that Houston was in far better shape than Louisville when both coaches took over. Louisville was literally the worst team in the Big East under Kragthorpe, so Strong had farther to go. Herman took over a team that went 8-5 and won a bowl. Houston was not in the worst shape.
Not sure why people think Herman is a slam dunk.

Saban and Kiffin visited Herman the last two off seasons to talk about offense. The best coach and the best OC in college football go to Tom Herman when they have questions about modern offenses. Hire that SOB!

I will say this, Strong's ace recruiter, Clint Hurtt, was NOT allowed to come to Texas because he has an NCAA show-cause, or something like that, or at least the stain of recruiting violations on his hands.

I'm a pretty big believer that you don't see the full effect of a head coach until year 3.
Hiring Herman would be a really big risk, imo.

charlie strong won with an NFL qb bridgewater at the helm, Herman didn't have that at UH and he did not beat 3 top 10 teams like Herman has in the last 12 games or so. Herman has beaten florida state,oklahoma, and now louisville and lets not forget herman led the offense of one of the most upset minded teams ever in ohio state with a 3rd string qb who had never played and ended up beating alabama and oregon, I mean come on the guy is a stud

Something tells me that I could search your post history and find one that states that it's unfair to fire Charlie Strong after only three years. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

With this being the second attempt for Texas, they can't risk the "next big thing" coach. I bet they go to a proven commodity. Chip, Jimbo, Saban, NFL guy

I agree Herman has some risk. However the his ceiling is through the roof. In 3 to 5 years he could be the best coach in the game. This is after Saban retires or finally starts fading.

I have had almost zero interest in the Charlie Strong and Texas situation, so I highly doubt I've said anything about it. I still couldn't care less what Texas does, I just wanted to give my opinion on hiring a head coach with 2 years of experience.
I don't think you can read anything into a head coach's first year. I think the 2nd year is where you can start to see signs of what's going to happen. By the 3rd year, anything that happens is fully the result of the current head coach in my opinion.

Bridgewater may have made Strong at UL.
Herman has not had a QB nearly that good at UH. Ward is a poor passer.
