This theory needs to die, the only way this would ever matter is if you were hiring a coach for one season, and that doesn’t happen

Why wouldn’t two best buds that are both super competitive not want to coach against each other in the best CFB Conference in the land?

I would say Bill O’Brien = Ron Zook

Thanks....but I would beg to differ on a couple of points.
Saban was not "Saban" when we hired him. He didn't have nearly the juice of a Spurrier or any of the other perceived top-of-the-line coaches we could have considered in 2000. Granted, LSU didn't have its sights set to high at the time, so Saban might have been "top tier" for us, but not on the national scene. He was defintely "rising" in stature, but hadn't really won anything yet. This matches the profile of some of our "second tier" candidates. Not saying one of them will be the "next" Saban, but they shouldn't be dismissed just because they haven't yet won or played for a natty.
When Jimbo left FSU, the program was in steep decline. One can argue over the reasons for that, but the truth is he abandoned a sinking ship before it went under. My personal opinion is that over the last two years he was there he had basically given up and was casting envious eyes on other jobs. But you can't argue that the program was a great shape when he left.
SW might have $12 Million, but like I wrote, for the coaches he was allegedly willing to spend that one (Jimbo and Riley) that was only an incremental increase the money they are already getting. Didn't Jimbo just get an extension and a raise of his already obscene salary? And I'm sure Riley will be getting a nice bump from OU. What is more, neither of them has a need to go to a "bigger" job. They both have plenty of resources where they are and no compelling reason to leave the programs they have built.

At this point I hope it’s not too late to get Napier. It looks like he’s all we got to choose from. Can you imagine if he says no? We’d be stuck promoting Daronte Jones or lol Peetz. Maybe the Water Boy! Who ‘s on our third tier list?

Stop right there, Chicken... just stop.
We're not hiring Ron Zook.

Spend on WHO though? This is what I don't get. Jimbo isn't coming, Riley isn't coming(imo). Doubt Rhule leaves the NFL. I wouldn't give Aranda 12m. Realistically I think it's either Cambell(if he doesn't go to NFL), Napier or Aranda.

I might normally be inclined to commend you for your bravery for going against the conventional wisdom on here once it's taken hold and the groupthink appears to have been settled, but then again you are chicken. It doesn't happen here all that often but it aggravates the hell out of me whenever it does.
The idea that anyone but Riley would be a failure or that Riley being the best candidate is indisputable and anyone still questioning that is an idiot and should be downvoted into submission borders on cancel culture. Aranda is a terrible recruiter. Orgeron has no redeeming qualities and had absolutely nothing to do with 2019. We wouldn't be looking at Napier if he wasn't at ULL and hiring him would be the ultimate fail.
None of these TD truths should be allowed to be questioned at this point according to many, nor do they deserve legitimate consideration. Last I checked, this was a forum. Just to collect a few more downvotes, I really hope we don't end up with Riley. I'd be happy with Aranda or Napier.

ESD is irrelevant for the right coach, especially with the transfer portal.
Otherwise, agree with this post.

Chicken, thanks for the post, we need some reasonable thinking around here.
From the get go, SW has known that Riley was a long shot, but also that he MIGHT could be lured to BR. The timing you speak of was a reason for hope.
OU moving to the SEC means he must adapt and bring in far different recruits than he has in the past. Which school, OU or LSU, would that be easier to do?
The offer...it surprised Riley and OU. If he stays, OU will have dramatically changed their pay for Riley and assistant coaches. Do they want to do that?
SW has long believed that Riley was angling for a raise. So, you throw out a game changing offer to entice Riley and force the hand of OU.
We win either way. Either we get Riley or a top contender is forced to spend much more money on their program.
That is what we want our AD to do. Swing big.
In the end, Riley probably stays put and we end up with Campbell, Aranda, etc...
We will be just fine.

Unless I completely miss read Scott Woodard, I can’t see him obtaining board of supervisors permission to fire Ed O in the middle of the season without having secured a coach. To do so is an exact repeat of how we ended up with Ed O. I just can’t see him making the same mistake as Joe Alleva. SW is a calculating type guy who develops a detailed plan, then executes it.
He has his man locked up already, and has done an exceptional job of keeping it quiet.
