Larry Porter's run at Memphis is going to hold back Wilson IMHO

Being an OC or DC does not have very much relevance when it comes to being hugely successful as a head coach. There are tons of examples to prove the point. So why does anyone think that going away to be a coordinator does anything to enhance whether he or anyone else will be good head coach? If he has the talent to manage others and be a CEO, recruits great, let's his coaches do the job they are hired to do because you believe in them then let him be our head coach if it comes to that because Miles leaves.

but it shouldn't...two different career trajectories.

Larry Porter was always a position coach who was brought in to recruit talent to his alma mater. he just didn't get the right scheme guys to coach with him to translate wins. he wasn't a organizational leader.

Frank is...he's ran a HS program and a athletic dept for a parish.

Sorry, Northern, you must be crazy. Wilson either stays as an assistant if there is a new staff or he does like McElwain, Go out there and prove yourself "grasshopper" and when you have more experience of what it takes to be a HC, then you come back riding on the stallion.

Larry Porter was considered a great and top recruiter too while he was at LSU. Look at how he did at Memphis.

Being a great recruiter does not make one a good head coach. It's only one aspect of it, and while I think Wilson is a great recruiter, he's not doing significantly better than his predecessors.

Under Henson and Porter, LSU averaged a recruiting ranking of 6 according to Rivals over 5 years (I didn't count the 2005 class since they didn't really fully recruit that one). Even if you give Wilson credit for the 2011 class (he came in at the end of that one), LSU has only averaged 8th in his time here, and is almost certainly not going to be top 6 this year.

I think Wilson is honestly significantly overrated by many LSU fans. Hell, the guy couldn't even get his own Godson to come to LSU.
