This was from 2019 when Rees took over. I’d expect him to get a proven OC over a young up and comer.

I’d argue Kelly has had greater success with younger up and comer coaches. Also, coaches that match his philosophy.

Agreed. Hiring a proven guy ensures you have that added voice of knowledge and it gives an extra layer for potential success.
I get why specialist coaches, like Riley, Sean Payton etc don't really NEED another expert in their ear. But hoping Kelly can focus more on big picture than having to babysit an OC.
Take saban for the last decade. He doesn't need an elite DC because he is one. But he sure as hell has been getting them when the spot becomes available.

he can call 1 side of the ball if needed....... which we have been needing since miles and O could barely tie their fricking shoes on the sideline.

I’m thinking one of the coordinators will be an “sec” guy. The blessing of him building the staff from scratch is he might fill it with guys that are more familiar with our recruiting territory.

Rees was hired as an “up and comer.” He’s only 29 years old now.
I trust Kelly to make the evaluation and hire given his track record

He knew and coached Rees. He was the QB coach before he was the OC. There was a trust there.
Briles should be the guy here.

I will Say this Kelly Has vetted many a coach in his career and my guess he will be able to pick ones that will has success compared to O.

Hiring assistants is one thing we don’t have to worry about anymore which is a total 180 from the last 2 clowns we have had here. I bet he stays on the younger side on Offense but goes with proven success for the DC.

I see Mike Elko is 44. That's a rough 44. I would've believed 64 before 44.
