There's a lot of talk that Brian Kelly reached out to Florida before he took the job here, and that Florida wasn't interested. Is there any truth to that, or are Florida fans just trying to make themselves feel better about Napier?

Does it matter? Even if true, different ADs have different criteria for hiring coaches.

I have no idea how someone could justify Napier over Brian Kelly.

Ross had a tweet indicating that when the UF job opened, some were notified within UF that Kelly and Riley were interested.

What was not said was that Kelly or Riley were only interested in a change once the UF job was open, or that they viewed the UF job as their number one.

Obviously UF went hard after Napier, a bigger gamble than either Riley or Kelly.

It appears everyone got who they wanted, so let’s see how it plays out.

Every agent is going to contact every big time job opening, in the hopes of driving a bidding war for their client.

I mean maybe. If was interested in an sec job it's likely he reached out to both lsu and Florida. As stated the two ads may have had different criteria in their search. Florida was looking for the next one, and lsu was looking for the one

EXACTLY...We got our guy y'all, by all appearances, got yours...It's one million percent irrelevant who Brian Kelly or anyone who represents him talked to before he agreed to coach LSU.

They targeted Napier and they're happy with him.
LSU happy with Kelly.

The end.

Their agent does a lot of feeling around during the coach carousel. It’s just the way it works. Sometimes it’s fishing for new contract, sometimes it’s fishing for a new job.

The ADs contact the agents of all possible candidates. They won’t to have plan B in place in case their first choice falls through. The agents contact ADs for the exact same reason.

Apples and oranges hires, I'll repeat what I said in previous thread...We hired a somewhat unproven, 40 year old wunderkind coach with a tremendous pedigree, who is going to recruit the lights out and rebuild this program with culture...Y'all hired a 60 year old, VERY proven coach to steady the ship and elevate to a degree what's already there and not broken.

Let me think:

The winningest active coach in CFB and all time winningest coach in ND history was interested in UF. And Florida said nah, we want the 3rd best coach in the Sun Belt who never won the conference?

Sounds just like Gatah actually.

Yes, Florida wasn’t interested in the second winningest coach behind Nick Saban and preferred a coach who couldn’t even win the sun belt. Sounds legit.

You made a good hire, you don't need any reassurances.
