They're just doing what we all expected them to do.Saving face to make the school and it's fans feel better about themselves and not make hoke feel like he wasn't the guy they wanted(though i don't think he really cares.he just wanted the damn job). It's awfully coincidental that they have a late night meeting with Miles, leave without him,he tells LSU that he's returning and then they announce they've hired Hoke.A whole lot of talking and BS indg for Hoke to have been the plan A all along.I won't even get into the fact that they pursued Pat Fitzgerald as well. They can say what they want to.They got turned down at least 3 times. It's real likely that Brandon fueled up an airplane, flew to Baton Rouge, had a multiple hour meeting with Miles, his agent and his wife but yet never wanted him.Who do they think they're fooling.Smart people, like Micheal Smith and Robert Smith, saw thru this and said as much on national television.I won't get into the bs Bob Griese was spouting out. They're just upset that the Big 10's "great" program sucks and is a laughingstock to the rest of the country right now. They'll be fine.

Brandon: Soooo, "hypothetically", what would it take for you to leave?

Miles: 6 years, at 5.2 million and larger assistant salaries

B: Hmmmmm, not 5 years at 4 million and slightly higher assistant money?

M: Naaaah..."hypothetically", I'd turn that down.

B: Thank you for your time. We are NOT offering.

Pretty close, but I think it went a little further than that..

Think about recruiting....coaches that are recruiting same kids as michigan can say that UM didn't even get their first choice etc..

Excellent point

If Bob Griese was telling the truth then that means Les Miles is in charge of the Michigan Athletic Department and all decisions must be approved by Miles.

apparently not. the tin foil hat crowd thinks michigan flew two separate planes to baton rouge to ask miles a question that they could have done over the phone.

it makes sense.

He just put the first nail in his own coffin, because he claims he wanted Hoke over Harbaugh or Miles.

He better hope Hoke wins and that Harbaugh and Miles don't, otherwise he is gonna be flying the big Domino's plane around for his own interviews.

Why do you equate "want" to actually being offered the job? He may have wanted Harbaugh, but didn't offer him.

He may have then wanted Miles, but never actually offered.

Difficult concept, I know.

At least this is a LITTLE more believable than when Foley said his first guy he talked to was Muschamp.

Detroit Free-Press reporter says Brandon DID make an offer but he low-balled it cuz he didn't want Les to accept. Go figure......

Yeah that is bullshite. You can't tell me that a competent AD would have taken Hoke over Harbaugh. I can kind of understand the whole Miles' situation, but that is still a stretch.

Don't worry, most UM fans won't believe that. The ones with 90's tunnel vision will though, but I doubt you'll encounter them on this site.

Dam I'm embarassed by my school right now.

At first I thought you guys were kidding, but it seems that you actually believe that UMich didn't offer Miles/Harbaugh and that Hoke was their first choice. Are you fricking serious? Hoke might very well turn out to be a good hire, but to pick him over either Harbaugh or Miles would be an offense worthy of a firing. Don't let your hatred for Miles let you look like a complete fool...

Exactly. Brandon is playing with semantics. I'm sure alot was discussed and both sides were so far apart a formal offer was never made......so I have no problem believing they were never "offered" the job. But there is no way in hell that Hoke was "Plan A".

I don't think this is true...my source specifically said that it was not a low ball offer and very significant.

Spin job.
The most transparent kind. I mean what, WHAT were they doing in Baton Rouge in that UM jet? Surely they didn't fly there to chit-chat with Les about gumbo or the price of rice in China. Les Miles was their target after Harbaugh, and he also turned them down. UM's program is in a mess, but let's wish Hoke all the luck in the world.

If BH was the first choice over JH and Les then Brandon needs a mental exam! End of story.

It's a play on words creating a "technicality"

If you "want" your top choices then you "offer" so that the "want" is perceived as "we (UM) are sincere"..

All this is done thru agents...to feel the candidates interest out....

If the terms and interest are not mutual, then a formal offer would not be extended.

In Miles case, he likely had paper with big zeros to examine.

All this reminds me how much politics plays a huge role in all this staging...It's a good thing Agents are involved otherwise coaches and ADs would be saying things unintentionally damaging to themselves or 3rd parties...it's a land mine for honest mistakes....attempting to do the right thing... Public eye is brutal
