I'm starting to believe that Franklin will be the next head coach at UT

Yup - I realized it about 45 seconds after hitting submit. I read it the first time as Malzahn for some reason.

Edited the initial post to call myself an idiot.

I think that UT will hire one of those 3 but I would swap Briles and Franklin.

When Mack's seat first got hot, Briles' name was mentioned.

But Franklin is hot right now. Resume kind of looks like Saban at a similar point in his career - he's 41 and already had 11 jobs.

When is the last time Vandy went to 3 straight bowl games?

Trick question - Vandy will be making only their 7th Bowl appearance - and the 3rd straight under Franklin.

First 8-win season since 1982 - first 9-win season since 1915.

The SEC is brutal, particularly to teams like Vandy. He gone.

If Franklin makes it to Austin at least there will be a few more attractive gals in Travis County.

I dont know about signature win but if Vandy wins their bowl game this year he will have produced back to back 9 win seasons. Thats unheard of at Vandy.

How ironic would it be if Texas hires Charlie Strong? Texas will have basically traded Muschamp as their "coach in waiting" for Florida's Strong.

Franklin would be a great hire for them. Fans would hate it for a year or two though

some might argue that Strong is Florida's coach in waiting if Muschamp bites the big one next season.

Harbaugh seems like a fanboy wish.
Tomlin would be a risk IMO.

I'd wager none of the above....watch.

Where's Malzahn?

Not on there cuz it's a 100% done deal.

Several oil tycoons bought Malzahn his own county and a private subway from his house straight to the school.

They also paid off Malzahn's outstanding credit card debts.

Makes sense. Texans are uber proud about being Texans and no coach out there is more Texan than Art Briles.

Andy Staples had a good writeup on it...

quote:

Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples looked at possible replacements from both a positive and negative standpoint. Here’s what he had to say about Baylor’s head coach.

Why he would fit: Briles is Texas football. Not University of Texas football, but state of Texas football. He’s Eric Taylor from Friday Night Lights made flesh. Briles spent 16 seasons as a head coach in Texas high schools before moving on to college football. Briles has the respect of all his former brethren, and if he strolls into a school in a burnt orange polo, he’s getting top priority. Briles also runs a spread offense that fits the skill sets of Texas high school players — mostly because it’s an offense that was designed in Texas high schools. Briles has the personality — and let’s face it, the perfect accent — to handle Longhorn Network duties, though that would be quite a jump in peripheral responsibilities considering Briles doesn’t even have a weekly radio show at Baylor.

Why he wouldn’t: Maybe Briles wants to stay at Baylor. The Bears are building a new stadium that will open next season, and he just won the Big 12 title. He also may have another opportunity. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported last week that the Washington Redskins may attempt to hire Briles if owner Daniel Snyder opts to fire Mike Shanahan.

I know nothing about Briles but he has proven he can recruit and win at Baylor.....and get paid.

Maybe he doesn't want the pressure of coaching at UT.
