this is the most moronic thing i've ever seen a school do. how are you going to get the first rate coaches if you wont let them interview for an NFL job. if your highest aspiration is to coach at a middle of the road program, then BC is the perfect place for you.

Boston College really overplayed their hand here. Maybe Jagodzinski should have informed the AD that he was scheduled for an interview with the Jets. But isn't the procedure that the prospective employer (in this case, the Jets) always ask the AD for permission to speak with and interview your head coach? Maybe the Jets, not Jagodzinski, breached protocol. Still, it is common courtesy and accepted practice that you let your coach interview for prospective jobs. It seems this turned into a battle of egos..."You better not! If you do, you're fired!...Well I'm going to anyway!...FU!...FU too! Jagodzinksi will probably end up as some NFL team's offensive coordinator. Maybe in Seattle. He coached Hasselbeck in college and is best friends with Jim Mora Jr.

BC must be a real crappy place to work. Their last coach left for even money to coach at another school in their conference.
The AD at BC found out he was scheduled to interview, told him not to do it or he would be fired. He went to the interview anyway, knowing he had no chance and hell of getting hired. Sounds like to me he was ready to leave anyway and gave the big FU to his AD.

Not always the best move either- See Spurrier, Petrino & Saban. The Pros is a different animal..

I think it would have been different if he only had a year left on his contract, but only being 2yrs into a 5yr deal and hes already lookin for greener pastures? frick him, he obviously did not want to be there.

Smart move. Now he gets paid and can get another HC gig.
BTW do you think the company you work for finds out you interview with the competition after they tell you not to, will keep you aboard?

I am proud of BC and think that they may have opended a new can of commitment that is lacking in the coaching ranks. I think if you sign a contract then you should have to keep that contract -- just like the university has to pay the coach if they fire him. Schools should move more towards making coaches honor commitments and have heavy penalities for leaving. Good for BC.

How did he do it behind their backs. I new he was going to interview with them on Monday (per ESPN) and I am surely not as informed as the Athletic Department at a major college. They even said on Monday that they would fire him if he went (which means they had prior knowledge). So it wasn't behind their back, it was just without their blessing or permission.
