Bama Fans: Some talk picking up about Boise State's O.C.

He has been in Tuscaloosa for the last few days. I like BS's offense. This could be a really good hire, IMO.

He's been the OC for one year. Not sure what to make of it but seems like the type of Saban hire.

Doing some more research, his resume is definitely not eye-popping, but it is not awful. Seems like a lot of jumping around besides his 5 year stint at BSU.

I don't want him. The offensive success for Boise State is all Chris Petersen. Bryan Harsin was the previous Boise State OC. He goes to Texas to be their new offensive coordinator and UT's offense has stunk out loud.

He has SEC experience, with the two years as OC at Kentucky. I like his resume. He's done well at Boise too. I think it would be perceived as a great hire as well.

As for Harsin, I think they actually improved on offense in 2011, with virtually the same players.
Pease is much more than just Boise. He has coached at several different stops. If would behoove you to take a look at his resume to be "unbiased".

Sorry for not being impressed after reading this. There's only one little line that showed statistical evidence of his team being good offensively under his watch. And if the guy was so great, how did he go from an OC for a school in a BCS conference to a position coach at Boise State?

It's hard to be a successful OC when your QBs and offensive line completely blow.

Here are the offensive numbers that Pease's offenses put up while he was at Kentucky and Baylor.
2001 (Kentucky)
Scoring- 80th
Total- 56th
Rushing- 100th
Passing- 19th
2002 (Kentucky)
Scoring- 23rd
Total- 87th
Rushing- 57th
Passing- 70th
2003 (Baylor)
Scoring- 110th
Total- 104th
Rushing- 102nd
Passing- 98th
2004 (Baylor)
Scoring- 100th
Total- 102nd
Rushing- 104th
Passing- 61st
2005 (Baylor)

Those are some ugly numbers. One particular stat that jumps out is how poorly his teams did rushing the football. Finished 99th or worse in four of his five years as an OC in a BCS conference. We've all seen how well having a pass-first offense with no running game has worked out for Tennessee. This guy isn't the answer.

He had great offenses at Kentucky, and followed Guy Morris to Baylor. That move by Morris ended in failure, but so have most who have tried their hand at coaching in Waco. Like most coordinators, that may be worth their salt, they don't always make lateral moves when a project doesn't end well. He went home to Idaho, and coached at Boise State.
I think most people would state that the Broncos' WRs have been very good the last few years. That happens to be the position that Pease was coaching in Boise, since 2006. He was promoted to offensive coordinator when Bryan Harsin moved on to Texas. However, Indiana did try to hire him as OC, before Harsin even left, but he decided to remain at Boise. Considering the offseason meeting of brain trusts from Alabama and Boise over the last couple of years, I think it stands to reason that Coach Saban thinks a lot of the Boise State offensive philosophy. He did try to hire Harsin in 2008, afterall. That all being said, only time will tell if Pease is actually interested in making a move. He seems pretty content to stay at Boise State.

Again, you're trying to project his ability as a OC at Alabama (where there would be considerably more talent at his disposal) to massive rebuilding projects at Kentucky and Baylor. You also won't give one sliver of credit to Pease in coordinating the offense at Boise State in 2011.

You've obviously not "unbiased" in your opinion of the Boise State offense. Nor do I think you've actually watched them play. They are very balanced. They had 492 rushing attempts and 477 passing attempts in 2011.

I would be fairly underwhelemed as a Bama fan if this is the hire.
The O/C gig at Bama should be a pretty good job. Saban's specialty is defense so one would think he'd give the O/C some autonomy but maybe that isn't the case. He always had his fingers in everything at LSU but he also let Jimbo be Jimbo for the most part. Not sure if that's changed now but it's sort of mind boggling that there isn't a big time up and coming O/C out there who wouldn't want that job. Should be a great spring board to become a HC.

Kind of hard to do so when he inherited a 3 year starting qb with 38 wins coming into the season.

I don't claim to know that Pease is the guy Coach Saban will hire, but he sure fits the usual profile. A relatively unknown guy, that's been pretty solid over his career. Runs things similar to what Alabama likes to run and has never been a head coach. I think Brent Pease fits that profile pretty well. Of course all of this could be for not, and Mike Groh gets the promotion. Either way, Alabama will still approach things the same way on offense.

For the record, he was at Auburn a hell of a lot longer than he was at Alabama.
He was Dye's first hire, and was loyal to him till the bitter end.

He's still played at Alabama. Though, I'm sure plenty of alumni visit during bowl practices, or just practice in general. It just happens Alabama will be hiring a new OC, and that's Calloway's background. It makes for conversant by the negative Nancys.

Current OC for NY Jets.
My money is on him going to Florida(he is an Alum) but I think the opportunity of working with Saban would be better for his coaching career.

BroncoSports is reporting that Pease is interviewing with Alabama. Though Danny Sheridan is saying the same thing. I think that doesn't bode well.
