Media reports yesterday suggested Harbaugh preferred Mike Lombardi as GM

49ers hire GM

Harbaugh/Lombardi

This probably means nothing for LSU, because JH is not taking the Michigan job either way, but who knows?

Harbaugh OK with Baalke

If it were up to Harbaugh to make the choice he might've picked his guy Lombardi, but based on what's come out he's 100% onboard.

Strange that the article doesnt really match the headline. Not saying its wrong, but that is odd.

Maybe JH has more input on personnel in exchange for signing off on Baalke?

It's a blog post, he just posted the most relevant headline in the title. You can trust the line, Kawakami's sometimes just a little crazy in his writing. Things were flying when he wrote that.

quote:

Harbaugh is a long-time associate of Lombardi’s. The source said that Harbaugh and Baalke have spent time together the last few weeks and that they share representation–power agent David Dunn has represented both at times.

That was from the same source.

Here's an updated article (written within the last hour) outlining what's up right now.

quote:

Harbaugh did not have a preference between the two, the source said.

Possible if not likely. It was reported that the Niners were willing to offer personnel input a few days ago.

No.

Harbaugh is fine with working with Baalke they already asked him. You really think they would have hired Baalke if it hurt their chances with harbaugh?

Harbaugh would have been fine with Lombardi or Baalke. SF will hire Harbaugh by the end of this week, imo.

yep and that's why they picked Baalke. They'll do anything to get Harbaugh.
