both fanbases that mentality, IMO... both have their pros/cons.

The Saban thing is overblown... he owns the state, but what good is that, when compared to the talent in Arkansas?... We're MUCH closer to the talent in FL, GA, AL.

Auburn has been Top 10 recruiting for all but the first year of Chiz's tenure so that's not the issue. The problem is the retention and development of Top 10 talent

There's ~6 million people within a 3 hr drive from our campus. That's more than the state of r-Kansas.

Alabama's got the following top 10 players from the state over the past 3 years (based on 247 composite rankings)...
2012 - 4
2011 - 4
2010 - 6

And currently has 3 of the top 10.

Auburn has gotten...
2012 - 1
2011 - 5
2010 - 3

And currently has 5 of the top 10.

So over the past 4 years, Alabama has commitments from 17 of the top 40 players and Auburn has commitments from 14 of the top 40 players.

How does that = owning the state?

good stuff, How much have they donated recently to the Athletic department or football in gerneral?

Just because you have benefactors that are big names does not mean your program has gobs of cash to spend on a HC

Auburn, better recruiting base.

I'd rank the SEC jobs:

1 Florida
2 Alabama
3 LSU
4 Georgia
5 Texas A&M
6 Tennessee
7 Auburn
8 South Carolina
9 Arkansas
10 Missouri
11 Ole Miss
12 MSU
13 Kentucky
12 Vanderbilt

If I'm a coach, I have to wonder what the hell the expectations are at Auburn.

Tuberville had a winning conference record 8 out of 10 years at Auburn and got run out of town. For comparision's sake, Bobby Petrino would've had to have a winning SEC record for 6 more straight seasons to match that at Arkansas.

Chiz won the first MNC in 53 years and got run out TWO years later.

This ain't an easy conference and division. If the above isn't good enough, what the hell is? And is it a reasonable expectation?

Doesn't sound like a fun group to deal with.

On the other hand, Arkansas gave Petrino every single little thing he asked for and worshipped the ground he walked on.

Arkansas is a better job, the only reason people pick Auburn is because their colors are better.

Arkansas. By all accounts, Long and the Arkansas admin are awesome to work for. You don't hear the same about Auburn.

Without question. Unless Auburn gets a really strong personality, it will be a tough job for anyone. And I don't think a lot of the people who pull the strings are willing to let go of their control.

I'll go ahead and answer: No one

I think I would pick Auburn, if only because their alums show they have what it takes to win...

What do you think?

The jobs are closer than everyone wants to admit just like Tennessee.

If Arkansas hires a coach with Texas ties it very well could be the better job considering they don't have an Alabama in their own state to deal with.

Lets talk fan bases:

Auburn - willing to do what it takes to win. Used to an uphill fight. Mostly realistic expectations, but a little WASPy.

Arky- can't even cover up their winning head coach's mistakes despite owning the state. Expect tons of success with a meager recruiting base.

On the alum side Auburn is a slam dunk win.
