I think whether he was actually offered or not is disputed.

NOPE.... never offered either. Couldn't officially turn down what was never offered.

Napier: I keep reading that he should go to TCU first then he’ll be ready. The guy was offered (Turned down Auburn and South Carolina) two SEC jobs last year… he has if anything only strengthened his resume with this season. Why would he settle for the TCU job if he was already offered a more prestigious job?

Could probably go to TCU and have full control. Those other schools wanted to put training wheels on him. Auburn is a great program but still technically a little brother school in the SEC West. Winning may not be easy. South Carolina is a dumpster fire as credible coaches like Holtz and Spurrier had mediocre results there and it’s been one flameout after another since.

Big 12 is wide open and I suspect this isn’t a complete rebuild given how good Patterson was for so long. If you are thoughtful and carefully planning each career move TCU is a better sport for him than those schools.

It’s safer in Norman than BR.

In BR he can afford a bodyguard. In Norman he can't hide from a tornado.

I was thinking about this some more. Correct me if I'm wrong, but recruiting in the Big 12 isn't the same as the SEC in terms of where you target, right? Looking at their last couple of classes and minus a recruit here and there from Florida and other east coast states, they tend to sticks mostly with Texas and Oklahoma. I imagine it will take both OU and Texas some time to get established in the SEC recruiting grounds. Perhaps the appeal would be to jump to an already established SEC recruiting power house and have a foot in the door from the start.

Let's just work with scholarship number of 85 (OU is actually under the 85 total right now but I'm not going to post a lengthy breakdown on here).

Currently, OU has 44 scholarship kids from Texas and/or Oklahoma. Basic math puts that at about 52% of their roster. Or 48% not from TX/OK.

OU has ALWAYS recruited nationally. Nothing changes, it should only improve now. Not emphatically or whatever. OU already has a top 6 roster (according to.. 247 TEAM TALENT).

As long as Lincoln's in Norman (it'll be a long time), OU will recruit the offensive side of the ball better than most schools. Where things will change will be on the defensive side. That's starting to show this year and will only get more efficient.

OU won't be going into LA or AL or GA (examples) and stealing kids away from the in-state powers (if so, it would be very rare), but they'll pluck a kid here and there from the South just like they do on occasion now. Some recruits that wouldn't consider OU may now do so since their families will be able to watch them play in their state(s).

Something that will change over the next couple of years? Texas high school recruits choosing A&M. Less kids will pick A&M because they're the only regional school in the SEC. Their appeal will change drastically...which is why Jimbo should go to LSU if he's being (truly) courted.

Oklahoma isn't going to just walk into the SEC and take over. You realize they play a shite schedule in the Big 12. It's going to take time to get the defensive recruits. In Louisiana he can get them easier.

OU fans aren't expecting to walk into the SEC and take over. Nor is the program itself. Compete, yes.

From a talent perspective, OU will be a top 5 ish team pretty much every year (just like right now).

You guys really downplay OU. If A&M can do what they've done in the SEC, OU will be just fine.

Riley: OU is joining the SEC in 1-2 years

This is my biggest problem with waiting out Riley: What if he is playing us? If you had every intention to bring your OU squad into the SEC, would you want LSU to get a killer coach? If by dragging your heels, arent you purposefully hurting the school waiting on you in regards to recruiting, and losing out on other targeted coaches?

Riley may be setting us up to lose, by not even fighting us on the gridiron. Just hang around long enough for the best recruits and coaches to take a pass, right before OU might be scheduled to play us.

I agree with the majority of your post, besides the fact that he can get them easier. I believe Saban is capable of pulling who he wants from LA, unless we hire a stellar recruiter.
