You are the only Okie I've seen that believes Riley could leave. All the rest - including Bob Stoops - are coming off arrogant and smug as though LSU is a joke relative to their precious little darling utopian OkieU.

Not based on everything I’ve heard. The Oklahoma A.D. prides himself on operating the athletic department in the black, and one (1) primary way they accomplish this is by not overpaying coaches.

I feel relatively confident OU will not get in a bidding war with LSU over Riley

Haven’t posted in a few days but last update I received from my OU source on Sunday said that status has not changed from his original information. Says win or lose against Oklahoma State this weekend is not a factor in Riley’s decision. Still states that OU is not going to overpay a head coach and the looming $80 million buyout from the Big 12 is the white elephant in the room and why they will not counteroffer LSU’s offer. Castiglione and the OU boosters are still banking on OU selling itself and the move to the SEC will attract a good name to replace Riley.

Many of the serious OU posters have indicated this as well. Which might be why OU hasn’t announced a raise/extension.

I’m not sure I buy the “OU doesn’t have to announce an extension if they know he’s staying” line either. There is a very important signing date coming up rather quickly. For recruiting purposes alone, announcing an extension, I would think, is in OU’s best interest. Also for the current players on the team who have Bedlam this weekend.

I guess we’ll see, I just don’t see OU sitting on it if they know they’re retaining him. It ends the distraction immediately. Period.

Well he will only be the highest paid briefly. Saban has in his contract he has to be the highest paid by at least $1.

Yeah I don't think OU is going to extend Riley anymore either, unless he defies the odds and makes the playoffs again.

They probably think they replaced Stoops, they'll replace Riley.

You guys are currently better positioned to win a NC than we are. Facts

It’s true that OU and LSU fans aren’t overly fond of one another but I try to be objective. Football is a business like any other.

Woodward I’ve heard is content to wait a bit because Matt Rhule has apparently sent out feelers to LSU and USC that he would leave the NFL for the right college job. He’s finding out what life is like in the NFL when you don’t have a QB. Also, David Tepper is a meddling owner.

I want Riley to come but I don’t think it’s that easy. It’s about quality of life. Will 2 million more/year be worth uprooting your family, having your kids change schools, etc? Is the risk worth the reward? I don’t know the answer to that for him, but he’s my top choice so I hope the answer is yes

Well if we believe that this is the best he can do at OU, then he's not worth $12m a year for them.

He'd be more worth it at LSU because the assumption is his defense will be appreciably better here because of the pipelines we have.

How do you know that SW is not waiting? Are you just speculating that? How well do you know SW and how he operates?

if we miss on Lincoln because Scott wasn't smart enough to allow him to do as he please with staff ie replace a Raymond or something or we didn't upgrade a facility then that is foolish and stupid. I have a hard time believing that is the hold up.

So if this is true, won't OU just counter at about the same salary?

Wouldn’t matter. You won’t ever hear an OU fan admit this, but Riley wants out of Oklahoma for several reasons.
