Data Analysis for coach evaluations based on recruiting versus development of players.

According to the data: Saban gets the best kids, but Chris Peterson kicks his butt getting them drafted and developed.

There are several other coaches who also develop at a high clip and many of those aren't talked about much here so hopefully the data, hard facts and statistics will encourage good dialogue here.

Hopefully Woodward is also utilizing data science on this search.

Note from the article:
Dabo Swinney, James Franklin, Mark Stoops, Gary Patterson, Jimbo Fisher are all poor developers of talent while Chris Peterson, Urban Meyer, Hugh Freeze are above average to excellent.

I would be highly concerned if they were not.

I'd love Urban or Petersen to be the coach. Rhule never had a recruiting class south of the top 30 but he used them very well. That would be an interesting hire, also.

In the evaluation of all P5 coaches (not just active), Ron Zook is the king.

That’s actually something that could be used as a great recruiting tool if the coach could dumb it down a little. Could be very hard to follow for some people.

We’ve seen lots of poor talent development in the last 15 years. We’ve also had one coach we thought was a family man but fell and another we thought was reformed but backslid.

Seems like there is one choice that stands out.

Can we get Freeze in the mix? I would be ecstatic if we hired him.

You mean the guy who went on Twitter and boldly challenged folks to email the compliance office at Ole Miss, and wound up getting the school put on probation?

The guy who kept “accidentally” dialing an escort service?

Uh, no thanks.

So according to this graph, we should be taking a more serious look at Greg Schiano at Rutgers.

Interesting.

He's had 10 first round draft picks since taking over. Of those at least 3 we're 3 stars (Queen, Jefferson and Clyde)

Not sure how well this chart computes.

Kirk Ferentz rarely get a high recruits, but develops his talent better than most on this list. I’d argue, better than Saban.

He has 33 players in the in the NFL, 90% of those kids were 2-3 stars. When he does get a 4 star, they rarely miss( Wirfs, Epenessa, Daniels.)

Recruiting is still the biggest part of being a successful HC in college
