Think about that. Not a first tier candidate but I think he could end up being very good.

I want to see what he does once Robert Griffin leaves. Kind of the same thing for Gus Malzhan.

Same can be said for Harbaugh and Luck though.

Briles had success at UH, too. Of course, he had Kevin Kolb there.

Just hired Phil Bennett from Pitt as DC. Baylor should continue to do well.

That's an awesome hire for them. Bennett kept things together at Pitt.

The Texas teams (excluding UT) are really taking a step forward.

True.

Phil has a house in the A&M area, his son is finishing up at Tx. Tech. Still this is closer than Pitt. He will do well at any school.
Best of luck.....

Briles is a proven winner. UH and Baylor. And he has shown the ability to recruit very well at places that don't normally do so. If that translated to maintaining the "fence" around the state i think he would do well.

I think you give Art Briles' recruiting abilities to much credit.

He's an X-Texas HS coach and has alot of connections in the state which helps him pick up some solids 3 star kids such as Griffin...not a lot of 5 stars...and that works for UoH and BU...

Not really sure if that's the type of recruiting that can transfer to the next level and a different state.

Bennett will help getting some good players...

you would expect baylor to pull in 4 and 5 star? come one. everything is relative, but briles has done a find job recruiting at UH and Baylor.

Not right now, no...but why do you think Briles can "fence" out Texas...

He's not known for "stealing" high profile recruits nor is he known for being able recruit multiple high profile recruits...He gets good bargains.

Isn't going to be pretty. Baylors success is because of RGIII, not Briles. Look at Baylors season last year after Griffin was injured.

this isnt about him staying at baylor, its if he moves on to a higher profile job. one where he would have to keep out other programs.

baylor is certainly not his final destination.

And Griffin wouldn't be there if it weren't for Briles.

That's kind of what I was saying.

Again, that was with Kevin Kolb. Briles also coached Kolb as a freshman in high school. I think that may be one of the reasons he got the Houston job. I repeat may. It just seems a little coincidental.

I don't know enough about Briles to say if I think he's a good coach or not. Like I said, I'd like to see him get a few more years under his belt.

BTW, If I was Briles, I'd be knocking Standford's door right now.

Kolb wasn't highly recruited at all.
