I have nothing to back up that theory with, but Briles went from high school coach, to RB coach with Texas Tech and two years later he is the head coach for Houston and here comes two of Houston's biggest recruits from Briles' former coaching gig. (They also got a three star DT from the same high school) It happens all the time. Look at Janzen Jackson's dad, Gus Malzhan and Frank Wilson. High school coaches who get a job somewhere and oh wow, their big recruit follows them.
Also, that is the same high school that Jevan Snead came from.

And that's it. A school isn't going to hire a coach because he brings along a guy with one other scholly offer. That's laughable.

I'd prefer Briles over Pelini. Having said that, I like the following:
1. Del Rio
2. Mullen
3. Sarkisian
4. Mike Singletary
5. Marrone
We'd find a coach by the time we made it to #5 on my list. I'd be happy with any of the above.

As I said, Houston signed four three star guys that year (their biggest recruits) and two of them were from Stevensville High where Briles coached. And they got two offensive lineman from there as well. Not saying it's the only reason, but I bet it didn't hurt.
And Griffin was a very highly rated QB who followed Briles from Houston to Baylor. I'm sure that didn't hurt either. And it happens all the time. Do you think Ole Miss hired David Cutcliff the same year Eli Manning was coming out of high school and fired him after he left because he was the greatest coach in the world? No. It was because he was a good coach and was going to pretty much lock up a stud recruit.
Not saying it's the only reason these guys get hired at the lower level schools, but if you are bringing in a recruit or recruiting pipeline, it doesn't hurt.

I've followed UH. The coach before Briles recruited well but didn't win. Briles was brought in for his offensive coaching prowess -- his system resembled what UH had during the Run 'N' Shoot years -- and not his ability to bring in two three star players with one extra scholly offer each (coincidentally, the DT's only offer came from Tech). Houston had brought in a ton of three-star caliber guys in addition to them.
This is a laughable comparison. Like I said, Kolb wasn't a highly sought-after player. Nobody was excited at UH when Kolb committed. You're completely pulling this out of your arse.
