Fulmer and Pearl are paid off. Dooley is $5M. The rest of the staff is contingent on whatever new jobs they get.
The $60 to $70M number you are throwing out is as completely made up as the $20-$30M number you were throwing out earlier.

afraid not you will have to offer Gruden a huge buyout or else he keeps his gig. What ever you pay him yearly times 10. So you will have to budget all that into it. Hence why I do not think we will mess with him and/ or offer him anything. Gruden loves crap like this cause his stock goes up and his does not have to do anything. He has an ego but he is also very afraid of anything that could damage that ego. So, if he goes to UT and can not win a BCS NC then that affects his market value.
I think he stays in the NFL.... but you can dream all you want.
Our own AD said he was going to hire an employed coach. So if it makes you feel better to think Arkansas wants him then so be it.
oh and tennessee the money starts at 6.1 million per year and a 65 million dollar buy out if you believe tardville....

You are not worth arguing with if you think Gruden will have a buyout of $60M to $70M.

and you are not worth arguing with if you do not think that Arkansas at its boosters could not buy ESPN and Tennessee and sell them off to China and create their own sports network.
If you think you could out bid Arkansas, Jerry Jones, Waltons, and the Stephens then you and your whole state is out of their minds.

If Jerry Jones is so willing to throw money around for coaches then why the hell is the head coach of the Cowboys Jason Garrett? If money is no object to that guy then Bill Belichik or Tom Coughlin would be coaching the Cowboys. Arkansas's boosters nor UT's are going to pay some coach more than 6 million a year. Especially since the best coach in CFB is Saban and he's making around 5 million.

Are you going to pay Gruden 25 million dollars a year?

because Jerry's a control freak?

I'm not going to even pretend I know anything about what it'll take to get Gruden as a coach or where either of our programs are headed over the next 5 years
I found this article this morning about Tenner's financial state - LINK
I know donors will likely be flipping the bill for your new head coach, but it doesn't look like UT is doing so well having paid out 9 mil in buyouts over the last 5 years.
Do you guys see this as a deterrent for a headliner coach?

Not for Gruden. Maybe for other coaches if Gruden simply doesn't wan the job.
I think the bidding war thing is overplayed. Obviously nobody is going to pay 20 million for a coaching staff. At some point, it's going to come down to which job he prefers.

Can't argue with that one

That keeps being brought up, but immediately following, Hart says it won't be a problem. Which coincides with everything Vol fans have been posting on here ad nauseum, that the boosters are committed on this one. Also, UT's financial condition isn't news.
I don't know if we get Gruden, but it's not going to be because of UT's financial shape. It will be because he either wants more than the market suggests, he wants to go to the NFL, or he wants to stay in the booth.
quote:
We are not going to let that be a detriment to securing the best coach we can. I have talked to the Chancellor at length about that. We have a 1.9 million dollar reserve which in the SEC is unheard of. We complete against people who have reserves of about 50-100 million dollars. We are in a tough position financially. The Chancellor doesn't want us to be at a competitive disadvantage of any nature whether it be financial, or academic or in any other arena where we are trying to compete and get back into the top of that pyramid. We are in a tenuous position, at a crossroads with our athletics program. But, we have people who understand that and are committed to helping us overcome those obstacles. That won't be a detriment, is it a concern? Yes it is a concern."
