Chaney? Not much of a recruiter under Kiffin or Dooley.

Mostly brought in to close OL and QBs. Sometimes successfully, sometimes unsuccessfully.

Was not much of a factor on the trail overall.

Pittman recruited the OL this year.

2 of our o-line commits (Reeve Koehler and Dan Skipper) could be coming your way with this hire.

ME GLAD!!!

Somebody else will have to scream about WTF are we doing throwing 20 yards down field (on 3rd & 1) when our running game is getting over 5 yrds a carry. Or the drives that take less than a minute.

But Pittman is a DAMN GOOD HIRE.

Chaney's offenses outside of this year were pretty bad, last year especially. Glad he was able to capitalize on this year and stay in the SEC.

The beat thing about this is that it probably keeps any of our young WR's from transferring.

Here's what Chris Low said about Pittman. He had him as one of his 12 best SEC assistant coaches this year.
quote:

Sam Pittman, Tennessee, offensive line: Few units in the league improved as much from 2011 to 2012 as Tennessee’s offensive line. The Vols gave up just eight sacks in 12 games, which was tied for fourth nationally, and padded their rushing average by more than 70 yards per game. Pittman’s approach was exactly what the Vols needed up front, and they blossomed into one of the top offensive lines in the SEC.

Wes Rucker just posted his in the thread about the hiring on our 247 board.

Y'all will love both of these guys, IMO, assuming Chaney's offense blends with what Bielema wants to do.Players will absolutely love both guys. I promise y'all that.UT's players loved both guys.

The Vols' O-line — which was one of the nation's best, and every starter will be a pro — marched into the AD's office and begged him to make the new coach keep Pittman. And Chaney's a great QB coach and play-caller, IMO.

The only issue most people (including me) have ever had with Chaney is he occasionally abandons the run too early when it doesn't work early. But I'd think Bielema's influence would help that.

GREAT hires, IMO.

Have just engaged hogville.

Tennessee: top 25 in the NCAA in total offense each year

Solid resume.

Tennessee ranked 70th and 107th in total offense in Chaney's first two seasons.

You'll quickly find that they just make things up as they go along.

Tennessee was 23rd this year in points.

I'm not too sure about last year, but the offense was good this year for the most part.

Should have known better.

WPS20 called this hire earlier today and I thought he was BS'n. I was expecting a run heavy OC.

He was just too pass happy at times, and kept putting an already shitty defense back on the field. He could have bought them a few more plays to rest if he had used the run more, particularly earlier in the season.

Strong hires.

Chaney coached the Breesus at Purdue.

Last year's Tennessee offense was the second worst in school history.

This year's was the second best.

10 of the same starters.

Jay Graham and Pittman were the primary reasons for the turnaround imo.

Everything I have read has said that Chaney is a hell of a QB coach and Pittman is a hell of a recruiter.

What makes this a very good hire is the addition of Pittman. If it was just Chaney, it wouldn't be nearly as good of a hire.

I would imagine the influence of Bielema will keep Chaney from getting pass happy. That's just never going to work with BB.
