Looking back on the Kelly hiring, I'm convinced Riley was a misdirection and Kelly was the main focus all the time. I think LSU did that to throw off Notre Dame and maximize their chances to close the deal with minimal ND interference.

There's an awful lot of noise about Baker but I'm starting to sense he's not the main target.

I have no information - just a hunch.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

Agree. History with he and Woodward suggest the names floating around are not the ones.

Just yesterday you had most of the media saying we couldn’t afford to fire House and we may be forced to keep him unless the NFL poached him…

I think they are. Kelly does not let things get out. He keeps it tight lip. I think this Baker stuff is Baton Rouge media driven.

This is how I feel but Baker recently coached at LSU and makes a lot of sense.

Agent probably realizing that extension could have been more.

While I would be happy, I’m hesitant to believe it.

Does it? I agree in some aspects but I also think he has an average defense on a good overall team this year. Also seems unlikely that Kelly would fire a position coach and then bring him back as a coordinator 2 yrs later.

The situation is fluid.

That aspect does seem odd to me. The risk is higher for Kelly if he hires Baker. He let him leave a few years ago only to bring him back. If Baker is just average it makes Kelly look like he doesn't really make the best hiring decisions. It looks really bad if Baker flops. Now, one does need to balance that with the fact that Kelly has about a $100 M contract doesn't really need to care, but still it seems odd that Baker would be the play.

It’s possible. Baker is a strong candidate, but there are still better ones on the board if they are interested. You have Minter if Harbaugh does head to the NFL. Jimmy Lake would be an absolute home run. Jim Leonhard is still hanging around as an analyst.

I'm curious to know who Baker's agent is and whether we could determine if that agent represents one or more of the other DC targets.

Hopefully, it’s Minter.

I agree Jimmy Lake would be a great hire. He has a little baggage but a lot of them do

Does anyone have any reservations about Baker? His mentor gave him a dc job and then took away his defensive play calling after 2 years. He then came to LSU and Kelly chose not to retain/offer him. Now after 2 seasons at Missouri (where he inherited Multiple year NFL DC system) he's 'found the magic '?

I like the guy, but there is another side to the coin to ponder if I'm being honest.
