I know I will get downvoted with this question. Let me preface this by saying that I love Aranda and think he would make a good coach here.
However, I do wonder what the boards position on Aranda would be if he had never coached at LSU. Looking at his resume and body of work, would we still want him as the next HC or would we scoff at the idea of hiring a guy who has had one good year as a HC?

But. He DID. Why should we pretend otherwise?

Even when he was DC at Wisconsin (obviously had never coached here), we all wanted him bad
Granted we wanted him for DC, but you get what I’m saying
He was known and wanted well before his LSU tenure. Obviously we are now very familiar with him and have seen/experienced him up close and personal. He lived up to his pre-LSU billing and some

One of his biggest draws to LSU fans is the time he spent here as DC and associate HC of 2019 of the national champions. LSU fans know him/how he coaches very well

The dude was respected by everyone while he was here. We firsthand know what he’s about. That matters.

Many would scoff at the idea of hiring someone they knew little about, but the fact is that we are familiar with him and know his potential, so it's kind of a moot point.

Would pizza be your favorite food if you'd never eaten it before?

It obviously sways our opinion in a positive manner because we know him and what he really meant to the program, plus how his departure led to a catastrophic collapse on defense.
It would sort of be like Tucker, i don’t dislike Tucker and if it ended with him I’d come around but you’d have to swing and miss a few times to get there.
With Dave there is forensic evidence that he could do great here as long as he does the things good defensive head coaches need to in regards to hiring coordinators.

The Aranda threads quadrupled after he beat Oklahoma. If it wasn't for that, you wouldn't see most of the same people claiming he would be the homerun hire that you see today.
They will down vote the shite out of me, but what I stated is a fact.

Waiting for someone to prove themselves is not a novel idea
Riley took over the top program in the conference. He has kept it at the top.
Aranda took over a middle tier program and in his second year beat the champ.
To be honest, Oklahoma has never looked like a good program this year, despite two five star QBs, one a predicted Heisman winner.

Hypotheticals don’t matter. Just like the hypothetical about Napier being in state.

He DID coach here though. Why would we remove a huge part of his resume at a place he was very successful. If you do that with any candidate they’ll look worse lol

Aranda took over for Rhule, who had just finished runner up in the Big 12 and to a NY6 bowl. That's taking over a mid tier program? Aranda's first season did not go so great as well.

So he proved himself in one game. Yet Riley has a LONG list of proving himself, but that one game makes Aranda the better option to you?
