Baylor coach Dave Aranda brilliantly chose to kick the most tactical field goal of the season in win over Oklahoma

Pretty good indicator that this man is always one step ahead, or he’s on his way to passing you up.

quote:

It looked like Baylor and Aranda were content to run the clock out, as they took two subsequent kneeldowns. But on third down from the Sooners’ 14 as time expired, the squad elected to send Hankins back out for what appeared to be a meaningless three points in a 27-14 win. There was a method to the madness, though. Aranda is playing chess while the rest of the Big 12 is playing checkers. After the game, he explained the reasoning behind the decision.

quote:

Aranda was referring to one of the tiebreaker scenarios in the Big 12. In the case of a three-way tie for the lead in the conference (which could become reality if Oklahoma State loses again but manages to pull off a rare upset in Bedlam on Thanksgiving weekend), the teams that face off in the Big 12 Championship could come down to point differential in the head-to-head matchups between the three tied teams. The reason Aranda wanted to win by more than 10 is the fact that the Bears lost to the Cowboys by that margin earlier in the season.

The tiebreaker rule is stated as follows:

In case of a three-way tie.

Nice job, Dave Aranda.

3. Scoring differential among the tied teams. The team or teams with the lowest difference between points scored and points
allowed in games vs. the tied teams is eliminated from consideration.

Grass don’t grow on that head because the brain demands all the blood to run on.

Good move at the end, but Aranda CLEARLY outcoached OU in that game. More impressed with that then the FG.

Even though I dont think he is in the running you better look at his signing classes...

Yeah, I’m going to guess O wouldn’t have been aware of that if in SEC tiebreakers.

And they were more physical at the point of attack. I don't think SW is going to be swayed by one game one way or another, but damn, Aranda was impressive yesterday.

That was the signature win Baylor needed, and he made sure they got it.

Dave won’t have to introduce himself to anyone at Louisiana high schools, but not like we have a problem with getting Louisiana kids to get pumped to put on purple and gold.

This is one of the reasons he would be my first choice. He is thinking like a coach until the very end. I wouldn’t mind a coach that is just quiet and about the job. Miles and Coach O get their share of sports center time. Wouldn’t mind a quiet coach that is all business.

Aranda is now my lead. I think he's intelligent and can build a monster program.

His team isn't as soft as Lincoln Riley's.

It will be nice to have intelligence as the program basis vs slinging chairs against a wall in the locker room.

Because recruiting at Baylor is totally the same as recruiting at LSU. The frequency of this stupid argument never fails to amaze me.

Don’t let it get to you, just realize the poster making that argument isn’t playing with a full deck. Move on to those that are.

I watched the post game as well yesterday. It was nice to see Dave speaking confidently and out front instead of quiet and behind the scenes. We were told for a while that he didn't want to be a head coach and didn't like the speaking.

Even more impressive, the players interviewed separately said the same exact thing. The first things that came our of their mouths was they wanted to be violent. One was the QB. Dave has an identity and has shown to be able to run a successful program. We thought we had other former staff and homegrown guys like Frank Wilson, but Dave has been proving himself to be a real candidate.

Peak Baylor after RGIII and multiple 11 win seasons topped out at 25 I think.

That’s not bad for Baylor.
