New Mexico St. and New Mexico are different schools. Also this thought is dumb.
If he wants to make 2.5 mil, he should stay at LSU.

If he wants to get into the HC fraternity (and fast), he may have to take his first job at a shite program.

[the Lobos and the Aggies are 2 different teams? Who knew?]

I think Aranda ends up being the HC at USC, Stanford or UCLA. After next year.

I also think Aranda ends up being the HC at USC, Stanford or UCLA. But not before he does a couple years as HC in the "minor leagues"

No he's not.

They can't begin to afford him.

Not this year but there aren't really many great jobs open period this year either, but there were some notable hires last couple of years:

Manny Diaz - State DC -> Miami DC -> Miami HC
Mel Tucker - UGA DC -> Colorado HC
Jeremy Pruitt - Alabama DC -> Tennessee HC

Well not saying that defensive coaches aren't getting hired. But offensives coaches are clearly getting first dibs these days and they're dwarfing the defensive coaches in numbers.

If O critiqued the D-Line, that's one thing.

I don't see how he could critique anything else because he's literally never coached anything else.

Naturally you’d think that’d be the course. But Arkansas just hired Sam fricking Pittman, Kirby got UGA from under Saban’s umbrella, hell Colorado State which is a better job than unlv,nm, nmsu etc hired fricking Mike Bobo a few years ago. Better opportunities will come his way, though i can see why he would be interviewing.

Money alone won’t take the stink off that program.

The Nunez link is the only reason I posted this. I could see him going to Boise if Harsin leaves.

No one could blame him for taking that gig. That program is set up to succeed and has a brand name now. Perfect for a first time HC to learn on the job.

Certainly no worse than Bowling Green or Toledo - Where Meyer and Saban got their first HC jobs

Yes it is. Much worse. The fact that you can’t see it calls your knowledge of the college game into question. I’m not here to argue that Toledo and BG are great programs, but there are located in what is still a fertile recruiting area with a high interest in football. That means there are strong 2nd and 3rd tiers of local talent available to these teams. When MAC programs get the right coach, they can win because of this.

On the other hand, New Mexico has very little P5 talent available and what is there is split between two schools. Being the 2nd rate program in a state that doesn’t really care that much about football is a really bad place to be. It’s a football graveyard. They are a perennial bottom 5 team that can’t find a conference home for a reason. If they are smart, they will take the path of Idaho and go to the FCS, where they can at least get into a conference and be competitive.

Aranda is the DC at LSU which is in the most competitive division of the most competitive conference in the country, there is no need to go back to the minors.

True, but those guys weren't thought of at the time in the same status as Aranda. Meyer was a position coach at ND. Saban was the DB coach for the Oilers after serving as Mich St.'s DC. It's not like Big 10 teams were really considering hiring such guys as HC's at the time.

Aranda has level jumped the "small schools" relative to his prospects for becoming a HC. Clearly he is in the same class as Smart, Pruitt, Moorehead, Mark Stoops, Pittman, etc who ALL went directly from big school coordinator/position coach to major conf. HC. And unlike guys like Smart, Pruitt, Moorehead, there is no argument that he is just a "title holder" for the real mastermind (i.e. Saban is the "real" DC. Or James Franklin is the "real" OC). It is well known that he has been in COMPLETE control of the defense his entire time at LSU, not just a figurehead for the real DC.

I am hearing Aranda to Texas from my sauces. Apparently Mrs. Aranda is not too happy living in BR. Its probably more accurate than him taking a head job at a small D1 school. It might not happen but I know there is a lot of smoke about this.

What I find interesting is that there are no pictures of him recruiting and out there throwing the “L”
Literally every coach on staff has made it in a picture this week....but the main defense coach? Not one? Something is up.

Something is missing though. I don't think he does a good job of promoting himself.

We heard for years that Kirby Smart was being considered for big jobs. It doesn't seem to me that Aranda's being promoted in that same way.

Maybe he needs a new agent. Smart's (and Pruitt's) agent is Jimmy Sexton. No wonder why they got major jobs.

I don't really know how much he really wants to be a head coach. Seems like the type who prefers the weekly chess match over the grind of being a HC.

If he goes HC I think it's in the PAC 12, maybe the MWC. Have no idea how he'd do, seems really cerebral, could be great could flame out.
