Anyone else feel bad for Les?

I do. I have no doubts he and LSU were working on a deal until late Friday night as reported and had some agreement going on but I still think he was gonna talk with UM and see what they say and probably go to UM.
When Kirk broke that story yesterday morning, that changed everything. Technically, he didn't have to call a press conference to say anything. But, he did because he felt it was the right thing to do, I guess for his team. I said yesterday that I felt that O'Keefe and the boys forced him to make a decision and that may have been, but I'm not so sure about that today.
When I saw ESPN reporting he was gone, I was sad. I didn't want him to leave because I've really grown to like the guy.
I just feel kind of bad he didn't get a fair shot to go to UM. I'm glad he's staying but I feel he really wanted to go to UM and I would have been happy for him had he gone. And I would have wished him the best of luck and been sad for us.
What I hoped was that O'Keefe and the boys would make a sweet deal(which happened), he then play the game yesterday and him meet with UM officials today or tomorrow and then turn them down but he didn't get the opportunity.

I do feel bad for him a tad. However I think he and wife were perhaps realizing that they were about to enter a snake pit up there with Carr etc.
PLus who could leave the LEs Miles Show with Mr X, Jeannie, and the Big Ragoo and that fun assorted group of characters we get to know each week. I am sure he didnt want to give that up

I was wondering what was going to happen to all of the Miles Maniacs had he left. We'd all be sad.

I feel sorry for him too, but I think winning the SEC and having a potential shot at the MNC softens the blow.

Agree with both Bayou and Rocket. And I'm not sure he would have gotten the Mich job. Carr and others were prepared to add more vipers to that snake pit today and Monday.
Sucks when you really want a job, but come to the realization that there is little to no way you land it. And if you do, so much of your energy is used to clear all of the booby traps set for you.

I don't feel sorry for him. Who knows, maybe he turned the tables on everyone else. Maybe he was the one that played LSU & Michigan. By not putting this thing to rest weeks ago, he may have manipulated both schools in order to get a raise, and still coach the most talented team in the country.

Lloyd is a bitter old man who put himself before the program. I'd be furious if I'm a UM fan right now

I do, too. It appears the guy has been honest about the situation from the outset of all of this madness and, today, many in the media are undermining his credibility and all but calling him a liar. Whatever I don't understand about some of his decisions during games, the guy is all class. He seems a rarity in sports; an honest, decent man. Credit Skip Bertman, et al, for recognizing and rewarding that.

I feel worse for Michigan than for Les. Les will be fine - and very happy - here. The University of Michigan got bent over and abused for the sake of one or two egos who couldn't stand to see one man have his dream. Miles will move on. The dropoff from Miles to Michigan's #2 is going to be big.

I feel sorry for the man because of the way some LSU "fans" (I use that term loosely) chose to treat him during this difficult situation.
I think the man was in a bad spot and truly conflicted...when it came to a head, he stepped up and did the honorable thing.
I think he was speaking from the heart was he said he was sad because he can't be two places at once.
That being said, I'm glad LSU is the place he will be!

I didn't post during the circus, i wanted to see how this all played out.
I always kinda questioned Les's loyalty and intelligence.
After the impromtu press conference, where he demonstrated decisive action to help his team, I was Damn... look at this guy.
Then he took care of business by winning the SEC championship with a beat up team. Impressive.
Then, the after the game interview, where he was truthful. That he loved Michigan... and LSU.
Heres a guy that did the right thing. What we all have been taught by our parents as kids. To stand by your word, be loyal to your friends, and be honest about your feelings.
All this and he's a winner to boot. Awesome speech. I think Michigan just found out that Miles is as good a man as he is a coach. It would make me want him as a coach even more.
If his education at Michigan taught him his values, then kudos to that school.
To me, his actions and performance will only help his recruiting career, both for ateletes AND new coaching staff.
I for one, am now a Les Miles supporter.

Agree with all of the assessments.......
Miles hand was forced by the "untrue leak" that it was a done deal with Michigan...
Mitch All-Bum can say what he wants about the situation, but it was a clear case of the media not being willing to respect the parties and teams that were involved and allow it for "due process". When that was interupted, Miles did what only a "stand-up guy" would do, which is to call "KINGS X" on the whole process....
certainly, there were possibly other mitigating factors, including a lowball offer by Michigan....but, I can't help but believe that it was more of a "spur of the moment" interceding by Miles saying "I'm not going to let my football team hear inaccurate news before a big game and let that spoil their year and my reputation....so, F**K it, I'll trust the guys who are showing me true love (LSU), and end this charade!!

Agree on all counts... My guess is Miles wanted to keep options open until after the season, but had his hand forced. He defended his team and gave up his options, maybe listening to his head and not his heart. He showed character, and his players will never forget the lesson.
Getting a MNC shot could not have fallen to a more deserving coach.
Made me proud to be LSU!

I felt sorry for him in January 2005. He took over as our coach and few wanted him. (Me included)
He had to live up to unbelievable expectations with no margin for error. When he won, he won with Saban's players. When we lost, it was all his fault.
He is considered to be stupid, foolhardy and incompetant by many LSU fans.
He is 33-6 and still has doubters. Incredible!

This is spot-on! I just hope that now after Les has pulled this team and program back to victory from some pretty dark depths (around noon Saturday was pretty grim!!) That more people will gladly give him the full respect and confidence he deserves as a coach and as a man that wears the purple and gold for all to see!!!

The doubters are all fools. Miles shut everybody up wit his classic act. Imagine Saban doing that???

Among others, I was quick to bash Les over this. I was wrong. His news conference on ESPN after the game yesterday was great to hear. He may sometimes leave us scratching our heads, but that took balls to do what he did yesterday.

You know, I posted this once before, but it's about stand-up guys like Les Miles. One of my long-time friends and golfing buddies had been looking for a new position and one came in from a start-up company that wasn't really his dream job, but he saw real potential in it. Two weeks later, the dream job came calling and he had to struggle with leaving his current situation and taking the other "dream" job or staying and making it work out because he'd committed to the company. He stayed and eventually became President, then CEO and took the company public and became an instant multi-millionaire. That other company with the dream job? That was Enron. Sometimes it pays to be a stand-up guy and stick with a commitment and I hope it works out well for LSU and Les Miles in that way.
