So, I'm driving to church this morning and some guys are talking about the UK and Petrino rumors. One of them says he talked to Joe B. Hall whose son in law is a coach on UK's current staff and coached with Petrino (Mike Summers).
Anyway, I always thought Petrino left the Falcons to take the Arkansas job because he didn't like the NFL, Etc.
What they said today was that Petrino went to the Falcons front office to tell them he was going to bench some starters who were not playing well, and was told no, he could not do that.
He then told them if they would not let him make his own personnel decisions he would leave after the season was over. Then the Falcons locked him out of the offices and wanted him gone immediately. And that is why he left Atlanta abruptly.
Anybody heard this, does it sound true? It would slightly change my perception of him, but doesn't excuse the affair with a staffer, but if true, I don't hold him leaving Atlanta abruptly like I did before.

Does is change your opinion at all of him?

Sounds like a fanbase trying to justify hiring that scumbag.

ETA: Next it will be the poor girl's grandmother died and he was giving her a ride to the hospital because she was in no state to drive

The whole Petrino at Atlanta thing was one huge shitshow. Really, unless you were there at the time, no one really knows.

I do know that Arthur Blank is shady and a slimeball......but so is Bobby.

Petrino is a great coach, but if he were hired in the SEC right now he would get ripped apart in recruiting. He has pretty much no leverage and would get run out of a lot of living rooms.

There wasn't any motorcycle wreck.

That girl's fiancée walked in on the two of them and beat Petrino to within an inch of his life.

Probably isn't true. Sounds like a story your fellow Kentucky fans made up so that if he's hired he won't look as bad.

There was a motorcycle wreck, there wasn't a wreck he was actually forced off the road and beat-up by an angry SO, now there wasn't a wreck, there's more stories than there are tellers it seems like.

Joe B. Hall isn't exactly just another Kentucky fan.

Except this wasn't exactly from JBH's mouth, or at least that's how I read the OP.

ETA: I was having drinks with Mitch Barnhart the other night and said he said Harbaugh is coming back to college to coach UK. With Sean Payton as OC. And Bellichick as DC. From the horse's mouth take it FWIW

If there was actually a motorcycle wreck, it's funny how nobody can explain how Petrino came out of it looking like a Morris Bart commercial while the girl didn't sustain a scratch.

I never really blammed Petrino for the way he left the Falcons.

Those players hated him, we're completely unprofessional and running around lifting up their jerseys up with free vick underneath.

Petrino saw it wasnt working and jeff long said now or never and petrino did what he had to do.

Its not like he bailed on a team that believed in him and the future. they wanted him gone but then played the pitty party to the media when he left

The only thing that bad was not telling them team to their face

Blank would not let Petrino tell the team, thus the note 'so long' to team.
But nobody wanted to hear that, only vilify Petrino.

“The situation was not him leaving team with three games to go. He went into management to bench a couple of starters that were causing problems and they told him he couldn’t do it,” Hall said. “He said was to have complete control but they said he couldn’t bench players they were paying big money. He told them then he would be not be back the next year and they said he was finished now. He was going to finish the year. He was not going to walk out. But they changed the locks on the door so he could not get back to the locker room. There was a lot more to that story.”

Jessica actually showed up to work the next day with a knee brace on, which led staffers to start thinking what turned out to be true.

From what I've been told Jessica was actually driving and Bobby got thrown off the back and onto the pavement and Jessica rode it for a bit then bailed off on the side of the road.

I didn't read the OP but those words were exactly from Joe B's mouth. The OP just didn't have the whole story.

Not that I don't believe you, but you got a link for that? I'd like to see the context as well.

Also, Donald Glover is fantastic.
