Alabama has landed a new running backs coach.

The Crimson Tide is expected to hire North Carolina running backs coach Robert Gillespie, a source confirmed to AL.com.

The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports and The Athletic.

Gillespie, a former Florida running back and a team captain of the Gators’ 2001 Orange Bowl team, spent the last three seasons at North Carolina after five seasons as the running backs coach at Tennessee.

At North Carolina, Gillespie coached two All-ACC running backs this past season, including first-team selection Michael Carter. The 41-year old Mississippi native has also coached other standout running backs such as Alvin Kamara at Tennessee and Kendall Hunter at Oklahoma.

Gillespie is the replacement for Charles Huff, who was recently hired as the head coach at Marshall after two seasons with the Tide.

Pretty damn good hire. Was always going to be tough to replace Charles Huff.

Please, Willie, tell us why you think this is a laughable hire.

It does not know. It is just still trying to get the lash mileage out of a played out schtick.

It certainly can't be because two UNC RBs combined for 3,000 scrimmage yards this season. Can it?
