Lateral at best. But sometimes you need a fresh start.
We didn't fire Sherman for 100% performance. If we were in the Big XII next year Sherman would be our coach still.
Loftin didn't want "coaches hot seat" talk overshadowing our SEC move. We want to maximize positive branding/exposure/etc. And Sumlin will give an initial recruiting bump also before the recruiting falls off if Sherman lost another year.
So, in this case. Lateral would be an improvement

Do people really think that top coaches are "interviewed"? good coaches have an established record and would be insulted if they had to interview. So, most coaches would not deal directly with universities; they would speak through their agents or lawyers. And if anything, the university would have to sell the coach on the job (not the other way around).

I said hours ago on page 1 that there was legitimacy to Richt rumors. Could happen. Shouldnt shock anyone other than UGA fans.

As I understand it, Richt is going into the final year of his contract next season. That's a big time slap in the face for a big time coach. If he wants to use A&M as leverage, then he's got to work out a deal with UGA before A&M fills the position, so this will not drag out long, probably not beyond tomorrow. Odds are it is a negotiating move, but you never know.

My gut still says Sumlin but I would be happy with Richt or Petersen.
Too many Ag factions are still pushing their man and agenda, and it seems that nobody buy Bill knows who the hell the new guy will be.
Whomever it is, they need to get this finalized tomorrow.

Why would you guys want Richt when Ga- with arguably as much talent in the last 5 years as anyone else in the SEC- has done absolutely nothing with it?

Probably will have flashes of brilliance intertwined with WTF games.
My problem especially now with a Sumlin announcement will be that we wasted a very valuable week in recruit visits, and he's a pretty damned good recruiter.

Petersen has no A&M ties I am aware of.
Our AD was the former AD at Oregon and has good West Coast connections and often looks that way for coaches

I understand that Byrne and Petersen are close personally, but that is about it.
