Dillingham began coaching at age 17 after he tore his ACL during his senior year.
He also kept coaching during his undergraduate years at ASU.

I think the difference between a really good coach and a great championship coach is the ability to have a back up come in and have immediate success.

The king of doing so was Nick Saban.
Huh. Interesting. Cause I swear I can remember a highly ranked 2002 LSU team—sandwiched in between the 2001 SEC and Sugar champions and the 2003 SEC and National champions—5-1, winners of 5 straight and fresh off an impressive arse whipping of Florida—in the Swamp…
tanking and finishing that season with 5 losses (would have been 6 without the Bluegrass Miracle) after an injury to Matt Mauck.
In his 3rd season here, at a time when you could collect and stash highly ranked QBs and expect them to stick around at least a few years, Saban’s backup plan for that season was a very young—and pretty terrible—Marcus Randall.
That team competes for the SEC Championship at the very least with Matt Mauck. With Marcus Randall, it takes what might literally be the most miraculous plays in the history of the sport, just to limp to 3-4 over their next seven and an 8-5 finish.
Those 3 wins were 1) at home against USCe, where we went into halftime down 14-6, but scored 32 unanswered in the 2nd half to come back and pull away, 2) the Bluegrass Miracle, and 3) an ugly 14-13 squeaker over Ole Miss. At home. Among the losses were a 31-7 whipping on the Plains to Auburn, and one of the most thorough and embarrassing beat downs in Tiger Stadium history, 31-0 to Alabama and Dennis Franchione. In his 2nd season in Tuscaloosa.
The drop off from that team with Matt Mauck at QB to Marcus Randall was as big as any I can remember. At LSU, anyway. But that was still relatively early in Saban’s career and before all 7 of his NCs, and I’m going to bet he learned from that and was determined to not let it ever happen again. I’m also sure Dillingham is and will do the same thing. Or at least do his best. It’s never been harder to stack QB talent as it is right now.
Kiffin is an anomaly, but he’s got a much longer track record of QB development at this stage than Dillingham, so he’s going to be able to that much easier at Ole Miss than Dillingham can/could at Arizona State, based on reputation alone. Hell, Dillingham is lucky he was able to pull 1 good QB of that caliber to that program in his short tenure.
And I don’t know enough about Dillingham to have feelings on him one way or another. This is not an endorsement of him at all. Just a pointing out of your terribly flawed argument that would dismiss him. Assuming he’s a really good coach, he’s not the 1st one of those to have a season derailed by an injury to the starting QB, and in this era more than any, he certainly won’t be the last.

Kinda feels like Chicken is trying to get us ready emotionally for the let down when Kiffin doesn’t choose us and we get Dillingham
I’d still be happy with this hire

100,000 screaming fans in Tiger Stadium yelling “Dilly Dilly!” I could envision that.

So Alex Atkins was o-line coach when kenny d. was the OC at FSU in 2020 & 2021.
Why do we need Kenny?

I’d take Dilly in a heartbeat.
We do better historically with these types of hires. Plus save some salary funds for elite staff/NIL.

Fearless leader, you have posted a ton about Dilly lately. I’m trying to decide if you know something or if he is just your preference lol.
I would actually be ecstatic if it was him and this Kiffin stuff was just due diligence.

do coaches leave their alma mater making 7 million at age 35?
He’s being considered for top tier jobs, right now! He loses 4 or 5 games next year at ASU and suddenly his name doesn’t come anymore. It comes down to what’s his goals are

Dillingham is my first choice but I'd be happy with Kiffin if Dillingham doesn't work out
Besides, Kiffin is probably heading to the NFL in under 5 years
