They did have some S2 castings that they announced a few weeks ago without revealing roles. One screamed Verin, the other no one was sure of. There was some speculation of Lanfear but she was in my opinion not remotely attractive enough, Definitely more of an Elaida casting to me.

Yeah, it would be tough to combine them, you'd have to remove Gawyn and Egwene's entire romantic plotline which changes all sorts of things.

I really don’t think Madeleine Madden is ugly like you guys do.

Anyway:


So uh they released something which is apparently the first minute of the show. It’s Moiraine preparing for her search for the DR.

And in the voice over, one of the very first lines, she says:

They don’t know if the DR is a boy or a girl.



Ooooweeee the subs are in a tizzy. I do not love it.

/r/whitecloaks in particular is loving the hate.

Not only does she say that the DR could be a boy or girl…

But she said that the female channelers named him Dragon in his arrogance.

The Dragon was already named The Dragon. He was also a hero that saved the world and paid for it.

Will there be no dragon banner at the Eye?

No saidar and saidin?

Why do people fear the dragon if it can be a girl?

Why have all false dragons been men? Why didn’t any woman AS name themselves dragon?

Did Gitara say “they are born!” Or some such nonsense?

Can Callandor be used by both sexes?

Is literally every prophecy gender neutral?


frick. I’m kind of pissed about this.

But this confirms that Moiraine isn’t using AS speak.

That means the prophecies are gender neutral which has huge huge implications. It’s a change that is totally unnecessary

Gender neutral biological sex but not necessarily based on the soul's gender.

We are reading extremely far into a voiceover that isn't even guaranteed to be in the show but if Moiraine knows that a male soul can be born in a female body or vice versa, as shown to be true later on, then this statement wouldn't break aes-sedai speak given that the male-soul of the dragon could be born into a female body.

Even if this line is in the show, Aes Sedai only have to not say something they know not to be true - so she could also say all this since they believe it to be the case but in the end none of the story or underlining metaphysics change.

Maybe they did decide to ignore all metaphysics in the series, but I wouldn't rely on this voice-over as confirmation.

I'm not here to argue about the merits of any potential change - was just pointing out that the noted statement doesn't have to mean that the in-world metaphysics are being significantly altered or ignored.

I think she is moderately attractive. Definitely not "overly attractive" by any stretch. About what you would expect to find in a small isolated hick town.

Just having a bunch of supermodel smoke shows is an old fantasy trope where every hero and heroine is remarkably pretty, and its fine in print, but it really no longer works in screen for modern audiences except on like the CW.

Lanfear is the one character that must be cast for looks first, acting ability second. Find a gorgeous model and hope she can deliver lines just enough.
