Tor.com has been good about putting out updates, a few script excerpts and all.

I didn't realize that the episodes were named from chapters of the book - I hadn't really considered that Season 1 could easily incorporate some stuff from New Spring

but they have to be tan - they hang out in the sun all day, skin probably similar to their clothes and their colors blend in with the background.

True, but they're also covered head to toe in clothing. The only thing that would be tan would be their hands and possibly faces depending on exactly how much the shoufa covered.

Rhuarc’s arm, for instance, when he first shows the dragon on his arm, was considerably paler than his face and hands.

Veils only up at killing time though - i guess mega tan lines when they are in the sweat tents.

Sanderson answered some questions about WOT on reddit. Said he has read the first two episode scripts, second was still being edited.

The comments get into people worrying about what changes might be made. I'm not too worried, since these books are already finished unlike GOT, the real story will always be the way I see it in my head.

Plus the best part of WOT is the world and all, if some side-characters take more prominent roles and they cut out or minimized unnecessary items and all I think it will be a net positive in the end.

That response is to one of my threads, which is pretty neat.

Above is the Reddit thread directly related to WOT.

There has been radio silence for almost two months now from Rafe Judkins.

We know that they added a UK based production company to help and a visual effects advisor.

Love that and agree with a lot of what you said in there.

As long as the soul of the story / WoT world is appropriately represented in the show, I will be happy. If Logain has a much bigger role for example, that is a great improvement because he has such an interesting place as someone who thought / was told he was the chosen one but was cast down.

In addition some of the clan chiefs can easily be made to have bigger roles where we get to see some of their thoughts. People like Berelein as well.

Those sort of changes could easily maintain the soul of the story and work great onscreen if necessary.

The show should have its own soul. They will need to expand view points and excise the ridiculous amount of characters.

They will need to completely cut out a huge amount of plotlines. The only thing that REALLY matters is the T'averen and their march to the Last Battle.

As long as they stay true to the characters as much as possible and keep some of the action beats they should do what they will to make it a good show.

Ok i'll go ahead and pick up some downvotes, but, Wheel of Time is kind of hot garbage.

The book is like half porn. I guess he never got laid and just had Rand be some fantasy character of his who gets to bone every chick in sight. Its just got ridiculous to the point where it severely took away from the actual story.

Also, imo, it genuinely a Tolkien knock off. Tolkien is my favorite author of all time. I love this genre and have read quite a bit of it, but i've never said someone was a knock off of my favorite author bc I feel he influenced a lot but I havent read others where im reading going "o cmon this is a knock off of Tolkien." But I did that countless times with WoT.

I dont enjoy Robert Jordan at all. I know there is a huge fan base obviously and I will watch the show and maybe enjoy it but in my head i'll be thinking "O CMON PEOPLE THE MYDDRAAL ARE JUST A LAME VERSION OF THE NAZGUL! I FEEL LIKE IM TAKING CRAZY PILLS!"

I don think im a nerd but man when I get to talking about fantasy books I sure feel like one.

RJ had said often that he knows the first book was a LOTR ripoff. He intentionally made it so to get it published. The rest of the series is decidedly different.

The series has many flaws, but it also is great in many ways.

I mean you are way off-base but its fine for you to feel that way.

Sure he had lots of aspects that emulate Tolkein, particularly in the first book, Trollocs and orcs bbut the world is so much deeper than that (I love Tolkein so don't get me wrong). The variety of races, the history, the descriptions, the foreshadowing is all incredible.

But WoT expounds on magic in a far more complete sense, things like reincarnation, the dreamworld, the game of houses, the ways, the Aeil and even the idea of a "chosen one" and how a person would handle that sort of pressure as the series drags on was all very unique and original for its time. It has more in depth political aspect, battle tactics including showing development of cannons and other technology in a medieval / fantasy setting and in one instance gives you a glimpse of the past "age of legends" where technology and the magic system are used in conjunction. Saying that the series is a Tolkein ripoff in totality is just flat out incorrect.

The series have tons of flaws and I am not going to go into a big back and forth but half porn? You can't honestly say that and then be a fan of something like ASOIAF can you? Rand bangs exactly 3 chicks in the series and it doesn't even go into detail other than making the reader aware that it is happening. Most criticism you see is that it is too puritan.

Yeah, virtually all sex happens offpage. By ASOIAF standards the story is extremely chaste, tame even.

To be honest, they will have to sex it up a bit and add a good bit of violence for it to work in today's Post-GOT market.

Even though I loved the series, I have long criticized RJ for being a bad writer. Having re-read the series as an adult, I have a new appreciation for his insane world building.

Ya but I hope not too much, the violence is there its just not as full on gore written on the page, but its insinuated as such.

I love the level of description, although he overuses phrases and over explains things we already know way too much. One thing I love is just how put together it all was as well as the level of insight you get into characters mindset / emotions / psychology or however you put it.

For example, I was re-reading the series and they were talking about Nyn and her block. I would have to look up the exact wording but they were talking about they would try and get through it. But one of Nyns thoughts in that passage was "I can't breath underwater and I can't..." - well a couple books later she finally gets through her block because her ship is sinking and she needs to be able to breathe underwater.

Also puts in stuff about Rand or Mat's mindset, personality which will tell the tale of how they will react to a situation four books later. I love story structure and all and Jordan puts in a ton of little "easter eggs" as it were that make the story come alive. Like when they find the Mercedes hood ornament in the waste.

WoT and Malazan are the most rewarding series I've come across in terms of re-reading.

No real update on this one, production is scheduled to start next month in Prague, Croatia and Slovenia. The showrunner has already been over there living for months...

But the information coming out has been on complete lockdown. No leaks since the Moiraine news.

The showrunner has his regularly scheduled twitter fan interaction scheduled for August 7th, and almost everyone is speculating that the entire cast will come out then, as Amazon generally releases that information about a month before filming begins.

But it is crazy how little info has come out.

I can't wait to see the full cast, i remember back in the day when I started reading and would be waiting for the next installment (in the rough Book 9 / 10 stretch of the series as well) people online would have discussions about who should be cast as what characters.

Absolutely never thought there would actually be a show on this series. I'm reminding won't live up to the story in my head, but i'm still going to enjoy it no matter what and maybe I'll be surprised and they will knock it out of the park.

Biggest fear now is that it doesn't get enough traction and they don't get to finish it out. [SPOILER COMING] But I think having someone like Rosamund Pike in there for the first few seasons will hopefully help it gain that early traction it will need to get.
