Everyone in WOT fandom is expecting major casting announcements today but Amazon has been as quiet as a churchmouse so far. Very odd, but hopefully it all happens today.

No

The prevailing theory is they wanted to announce something today but it's not done. At the last minute the show runner tweeted that the Amazon account would have something.

Then Amazon tweeted there would be something next week.

WoTonPrime twitter has the cast:

LINK

Mostly unknowns, especially Rand who has very few credits.

Mat is spot on. Great casting.

Perrin and Nynaeve are black, which will probably tick some people off. Egwene has the most credits of any of the actors announced so far today, she is Indigenous Austrailian as well. Interesting, she has the look.

I'm sure, definitely goes against the "everyone in two rivers looks the same except Rand" idea. Also Perrin isn't the "broad shouldered blacksmith" I imagined based on the twitter pic.

I'm not too worried about characters looks and all, it won't ever be what I had in my head.

As long as they can act I don't care.

FYI the guy playing Rand looks much more the role in his actual pictures. He's light haired, light eyed and pretty tall for an actor.

My all-time favorite series! Although the Middle books did slow way down, upon re-reading they bridged crucial personality/maturity growth for each of the main characters. Those sequences were far more rewarding to the reader than most books I have read, wherein the author simply tells you that the character has undergone some sort of catharsis, rather than allowing you to simply watch it happen.

Ya it was really only like 2 or 3 that were the real bad section. And it wasnt as bad on the reread when you weren't waiting years for a book and have not a ton happen in it.

They are a big turning point for the changes in rands psyche and personality as he struggles with being the chosen one and this reincarnated savior.

Yeah, really only Winter's Heart and Crossroads of Twilight that were straight up bad, Path of Daggers is just extremely mediocre and has zero plot movement. And WH has the cleansing of saidin that was really well done and makes it not totally horrible.

Crossroads of Twilight however is completely horrible.

Yeah, nothing to miss there, Jordan had a pretty awful run with Winters Heart and COT. WH was basically COT with an awesome last 100 pages, both books were 95% worthless.

It's funny, I went to a comic con either the summer after COT came out or the one after, and sat in on a writers panel that Jordan and 4-5 other others were doing. Jordan was unironically talking about how other authors could lose their way, start taking way longer for books, and not move the plot during the books they did write, basically talking about himself at the time without even realizing it. He was also a total boor during the panel and talked over the other authors constantly.

That experience plus the terribleness of COT and WH really put me off him as an author. He would have gotten eaten alive during today's online climate.

On the flip side Jim Butcher was on the same panel and came off as a legit nice and cool guy, which made me check out his Dresden Files later on when I saw them in the bookstore, so it was an overall win.

Actually doing the series for the first time. Done Song of Ice and Fire and Dark Tower. Tried Malazahn book of the fallen and couldn’t get into it, tried like 4 books too. Liking this series for the most part tho there is a bit of over description at times. I’m on Lord of Chaos now glad Rand finally got some not too long ago. .

Books 8-10 are a bit of a slog, just warning you. 10 is by far the worst book in the series and is a real chore.

11-14 (the last Jordan book and the 3 Sanderson ones) are a true return to form and great way to finish.

I love the characters even though I know it is a flawed series at times.

same, and it really did bring a ton of fresh ideas to the space in the time it was written.

I had high hopes that this would turn into a classy operation similar to the outlander TV adaptation, but it is looking instead like another Xena–quality embarrassment that so many of other fantasy adaptations became. And how is a skinny a little dude cast as the hulking blacksmith Perrin?
