Wait what is the hardcore SJW stuff? I thought we had mostly avoided anything too terrible.

Did someone confirm one of those horrible predictions about the Whitecloaks being used as a Klan substitute?

Overboard with that. But it’s clear he has an agenda to make the cast racially diverse over Jordan’s descriptions, sometimes without it making any sense at all.

Oh ok. Yeah I get how people can be frustrated by casting choices dictated entirely by race or gender, but everything I've read has pointed to these castings being generally about talent first and foremost. Which makes sense because if this show is going to make it long term, the younger cast has to be way more hit than miss. Especially Rand, Mat, Egwene, and potentially Avienda.

The only casting choice i am not a huge fan of is Min, because of how much of an image I had of her in my head during the series.

I am also a little curious to see what the Aeil end up looking like.

I hope this is rumor, and stays that way. Because that would be an instant no-watch from me.

The whitecloaks weren't racist....they hated everyone equally.

I don't think this could possibly be true - first of all isn't Valda black in the casting? And they also hate the dragon through much of it and Rand is white.

Seems like a knee jerk rumor based on Perrin's casting to me and the general similarity to how the KKK dress in white.

Pretty much the whole main cast is confirmed to be back in Prague.

Only if they're remaking Blazing Saddles.

A call for extras with a mistranslation (it says July, but they mean September 7.

They are restarting filming next Monday.

A few notes...they have a LONG block of time scheduled for 2 episodes, much longer than any other two episodes have taken, over 65 days.

The speculation is that either there are some reshoots built in since they have had 7 months to sit on and edit the previous 6 episodes, or they are starting Season 2 (they have already written a few episodes of that, but it has not been officially greenlit).

If there are some reshoots I don't see it as a bad thing.

WOTonPrime just posted this little 10 second teaser video showing a glimpse of the Winespring Inn in EF. Looks really pretty.

Rafe answered 3 questions on instagram. Only real interesting thing of note is that we do see some of the bel tine festival in the show. Makes it seem like the series opening will be pretty true to form.

I’m 2/3 through reading Lord of Chaos. Was it a struggle for anyone else? I am now trying to picture the characters as they are cast for the show...

If you are in a struggle reading LoC you are in trouble, considering its one of, and possibly the best book in the series. It has a very very satisfying ending, I'll put it that way.

Books 8-10 are considered "the slog" where things slow down considerably, with 10 being, by far, the worst book in the series.

That stretch can be difficult. 8 and 9 at least have some major events. 10 is dreadful.

But just persevere. It is worth it. The last few books are great!

I burned straight through the first seven books of the series. If you struggle with books 2 through 6, you may not need to read the rest of the series. But at least push through till the end of this one I think.

You also may just need a break from this series and read something else. Come back to WoT with fresh eyes.

I am on Book 3.

1st half of Book 1 was a chore. The rest, easy.

I am dreading 7-11. My good friend compared them to Goodkind's Pillars of Creation. . .but 5 of them

You're friend was exaggerating. Book 7 is quite good, it has some events you won't love but the quality of the book is there. Book 11 is very highly rated by fans of the series.

Book 10 is the only one that truly sucks, it is basically the set up to 4 different storylines which then get finished in Book 11 - Books 8 and 9 move really slow and really should have been one book, but they aren't as daunting as you think.

The slog gets really exaggerated a lot - it certainly exists but people extending it to books 7 - 11, acting like all 5 of those are Book 10 quality is completely untrue. Don't worry too much about it - and you can just sort of skim read Book 10.

I think much of it has to do with people (like me) who were reading them as they were released, so getting those kind of releases after a long wait was a real punch in the nuts. All of us Wheel of Time fans were really pumped he got Book 11 out and finished his last published effort with a very good book, would have hated to see him go out on Book 10.

Tl:DR; don't worry too much about it, and you have to question anyone who decides to lump Book 11 (and Book 7) in with the slog.

7 is good.

8 and 9 are a bit slow but some very VERY major things happen.

10 is dreadful and a complete slog.

11 is great and a return to form for RJ before he passed. One of the better books IMO.

You'll be fine, you have a lot to look forward to.

Ya i think we oversell the slog some, people go in dreading it and thinking several books of nonsense and terrible writing.

Really they just needed to edit those books down and combine a little bit. They have a lot of cool scenes and worldbuilding and intrigue - need to reign in that part and re-order some big events so there is more suspense (thinking of one thing specifically)

Judkins has already commented on the task of condensing down the "middle part" of the series.

At some point you are going to see fairly drastic changes. They aren't getting 14 seasons. They will be lucky as hell to get 7 or 8. Hell GOT was the biggest series in the world and HBO and the showrunners got weary of it and condensed it down.

You're going to see whole plotlines and characters get reduced down to pretty much nothing.
