I'll read Mystic River in a couple days. Just started American Assassin by Vince Flynn and I'm digging it.

Eta. This Book Board has gotten me back into reading in an awesome and unexpected way. I appreciate all those who participate and who suggest things

I'm currently reading the Jack Ryan series for the first time. Read Without Remorse this summer at the beach and thought it was fantastic.

Just finished Patriot Games since it's the first Ryan book as far as time goes. It was a really good book and I like the Ryan character and family. Since I like John Clark so much in Without Remorse, I moved on to Hunt for Red October last night skipping the Rabbit book that was written a decade later. I want to get to Clark's stories!

I'm also listening to the Audible version of Dan Brown's Origin. I know he get's shite on a lot but I think he tells great stories and the subject matter is right up my alley. I read/listen to books for entertainment and he's one of the best for me. I'm not very far into Origins yet but it's good so far.

Great book. It was my favorite in the whole series and IMO the best one he wrote.

I have enjoyed all of Dan Brown's books. I bought Origins the day it came out, bUT I have 3 books to read before I can start it.

Currently, I'm finishing up the final part of The Power of Habit. I think it's a great read that can influence and help anyone. I highly recommend picking it up at the library when you get time.

Furthermore, I just purchased the complete Sherlock Holmes set (4 novels and 56 short stories) by Arthur C. Doyle. I can't wait to tackle it once I finish the Power of Habit.

Finished American Assassin and enjoyed it enough to get 160 pages into Kill Shot today(the next book in the Assassin series) by Vince Flynn

ETA: Only 45 pages left of Kill Shot. It started slow with way too much going but god damn the second half of this book has had me unable to put it down. I already have Transfer of Power (the next in the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn) put on hold at the library. Holy hell I'm becoming an official book nerd and I love it

Can someone explain how he's writing or publishing this series?

American Assassin published in 2010
Kill Shot published in 2012
Transfer of Power in 1999

LINK

Maybe I'm just being naive in my series book knowledge (as I've read a few series) but I don't get it? Is he piecing things together after their popularity? Excuse my ignorance if this is a stupid question to the veterans of book reading

Bump for question above. Finished Kill Shot. On to Transfer of Power now, I'm loving this Mitch Rapp series. Vince Flynns style of writing makes the read so fast

The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes.

I'm about half way through, and it's very good so far. The first half of the book goes into a lot of detail about the backgrounds of the Manhattan Project scientists and the discoveries they were making leading up to WWII.

Another good book on this subject is

American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer

It goes into the backgrounds of many of the scientists that worked on the project and the worldwide political repercussions of the nuclear arms race after the bombs were dropped.

I'll get this one when it goes paperback. Dan Brown novels are a guilty pleasure for me. I can sprint through them, I get so engrossed.

Kill Shot published in 2012
Transfer of Power in 1999

He started writing the series around the early-middle of Rapp's career. He didn't fully put his origin story on paper until American Assasin.
