I was told episode 3 was the start of it getting better and was less than impressed. It was more meh.
I’ll watch the rest of the season but I doubt I’ll watch a second. There’s been no hook yet. That’s kinda bad for a show pimped as much as it has been.

Rolling Stone did not like it AT ALL. Ripped it to shreds a bit.

It's not the best show ever but im really enjoying it.
Every episode has been better than previous.
I concur, it seems to be doing some pretty good deep foreshadowing as Jordan loved to do and setting up a good foundation.

Episode 5 is up.
That was a pretty meh episode outside of the Perrin/white cloaks stuff. Not really a fan of the changes to Lan's personality at all.

thought they did a good job with Tar Valon and the tower, although I'm still hoping to see some Ogier style buildings and wish the streets and interiors looked larger, often feels like the camera is too close in
still not used to the look of Loial vs my mental picture, but I did like his voice and mannerisms - liked the aielman bit with him and Rand in the library.
really liked the two padan fain cameos around the inn
biggest gripe for me was that warder funeral / wailing and gnashing of teeth ceremony at the end of the episode, seemed completely uncharacteristic for Lan and just strange to me - not to mention so much wasted time on this Stepin guy that I don't care about at all

Yeah,Loial looked super weird, but I'll give Rafe a break on that one since he basically said he did that because he couldn't afford to cgi his look all the time and didn't want to leave Loial out of scenes. Don't know why he couldn't have given him the ears though. I thought the actor did a good job with the scenes and tone of Loial though.
And yeah, the Lan parts were the worst part to me, they've completely changed his personality with those scenes.

Agreed on all fronts. Loial's actor seemed to do the job very well, but the costuming and look was just
And the long drawn out funeral for Stepin was way overdone. Is there some backstory that they created for Lan to react this way? He didn't show this much emotion when the bond broke from Moiraine.

Agree with this, but supposedly Lan was representing all the gathered aes sedai and warders grief together according to Rafe in a behind the scenes clip.
So it wasnt as out of character at first glance, but still wasnt feeling it that much.
Way too much Steppin considering how little screen time we have.
Liked pretty much all the non-Steppin stuff especially the Perrin/Egwene scenes and the Rand/Nyn stuff.

I liked the episode, Perrin / wolfbrother and TAR is going to be so hard to adapt in a fluid way without pulling people out of the show - the wolf attack wasn't the cleanest or best looking part of the show and, full disclosure, Perrin is generally my least favorite of the Emond's Fielders.
Loved the rand / nyn stuff in this episode and dropping in the breakbone fever story was great.
And I thought they did a God job with loial - his lines were written perfectly and his cadence was great. I found his cgi teeth distracting but the costume was fine for me - I'm sure its cgi will improve in seasons to come.
I think they did the warder / Steppin stuff to just go ahead and set the groundwork for transferring Lan's bond, show the level of warder / aes sedai bond connection so non-readers have an appropriate reaction when alanna does it to Rand and that kind of thing. Also so they don't have to explain with a bunch of awkward dialogue spattered throughout.

Business Insider
Starting to see some good signs for the show to finding its audience. Was last weeks most "in demand" TV series in the world across all platforms.

I mean… there’s nothing WoT is competing with right now. They were smart to drop it when it did.

That was just one metric, people seem to be liking it.
And it looks like the MCU released Hawkeye or some shite in the last couple weeks so. Keeping up with an MCU venture is definitely a good sign IMO.

I think Valda may have some sort of ter'angreal like Matts fox medallion?
I wonder if that is how he has been able to kill the aes sedai, it didn't look like Egwene's lil flame made any mark on his chest is what made me jump to that but just wild speculation.
He also said something like "what makes you think I would keep to my oaths" - so that could be a reference since the Whitecloaks don't associate with things of the power.
Also, he said "you will need to channel more than that to harm me" which could indicate that his medallion is not as effective as Matt's is from the books - just like the copies Elayne tried to make were not as effective as the OG.
I wonder if they are weaving in some stuff which will even surprise book readers with a reveal.
Fain is also really subtly input several times, I missed him until I re-watched again. They also played his little whistling cadence Shadar Logoth after Matt gives Perrin the knife from Leila. I don't know if that is just a little nod to the books or maybe they are layering in some stuff for a reveal later.
I'm starting to get intrigued - could be more going on than meets the eye and setting up for a reveal later - or it may just be throwing in some subtle book references. Hard to tell at this point.

I’m assuming the “true to oaths” comment was because he’s a dark friend?
Posted on 12/4/21 at 11:03 am to hogfly
Was he a darkfriend in the books? I can't remember.
I thought he was going to be used to show the human evil not associated with The Dark One.

I finally watched episode 4 and it was the best so far. I really liked the black weaves from Logain to show the taint and the way they visualized his going mad. I hated Moiraine saying women have claimed to be the Dragon reborn though. I'll stop commenting on that aspect of the show after this but my god I hate that change so much.
Another great aspect is the perfect casting of Liandrin. She was a little too chummy with Nynaeve but I'm fine with that since she is trying to undermine Moiraine.

Whoever is playin Liandrin is really nailing the role IMO, getting some real Delores Umbridge vibes (which is a compliment given where her character is going). Her little face movements and shite work really for some reason. No spoilers but some great stuff in Ep 5 in that plotline as well.

Loial continuing to ramble on after rand and nynaeve are ignoring him was absolutely hysterical. I think that actor is killing it and excited for more scenes with him.
Also, I think they lifted some of the dialogue between rand and him from the books?
Really didnt enjoy the emphasis on the aes sedai/warder bond, but I get why they’re doing it for non-readers.
I hope the budget can afford CGI wolves in later seasons. That sequence looked pretty rough. Overall, pretty alright episode with some really good moments littered throughout.

Ya, i'm just going to keep posting in here I think. The multithreads are confusing me.
The wolf scenes were rough, I dont' know how that is all going to work out on screen.
It sounds like the dialogue combined some lines from various Loial scenes. Him talking so slow and rambling like that was great with Nyn rushing in before he was halfway through.
