This happens all the time with movies, but I feel like we don’t talk about it much with books. Any series where yal loved the first book or two and then it went to shite?

For me, the first book (Black) in the Circle trilogy was a book I read in about two days. I’ll never forget it was during final exams my senior year, and I almost failed because I couldn’t put this book down. It was as creative and immersive a book as I can remember. Then the rest of the series happened, and it turned into some weird crazy religious shite.

But I still think of that first book, so damn good.

Jordan's wheel of time fell off a cliff after book 8, though his last book before he died did get a bit better.

A little too soon to say fell off a cliff since he has only written two books, but the drop off between Rothfuss's first and second books was gigantic.

I'm predicting ASOIAF will for the next 2 books. However, that might be some residual bitterness talking.

For a serious answer, Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality. The first book, On a Pale Horse, was fantastic. The rest of the series was hit and miss, with some good, some bad and some mediocre. None of them approached that first one at all.

Ken Follett's Century Trilogy fell off a cliff for me. The first two volumes were excellent. The final volume is ok at best.

I really liked the first 6 or so Stone Barrington books by Stuart Woods, the one where he was a struggling lawyer and part time PI. The last few I read he was like buying a plane and it felt like a very different series. Although, I think there are like 50 of these books and most came after I quit reading so maybe I'm wrong.

Couldn’t you say it has already fallen off a cliff? Feast and Dance are nowhere near the quality of the first three.

The Ravens Shadow Trilogy. Started off so good, then fell apart by the third book.

Finishing a Dance with Dragons was a chore. After that one I really don't care if the series is ever finished.

I thought The Dark Tower series fell off a cliff about half way through, though it did bounce a few times.

Yes. And you made it farther than I did. So much potential squandered.

Red Sparrow trilogy. I was intrigued by the first book; second book was meh; third book was awful.

After Wizard and Glass, the series kind of took a nosedive.

This is by Ted Dekker, right? He's a Christian author and finds a way to connect each of his books to each other. It's like he created an interconnected world and tries to find a way to make them collide. I thought it was a neat idea at first, but then I couldn't keep up with all of his stuff.

For me, it's the Divergent series. Couldn't go back to it after reading the last book, Allegiant. Ruined the whole storyline for me.

Agreed. But king did get hit by a van and only speed up because he almost died. At least we aren’t still waiting on them.

The "Boiled Leather" combined reading of Feast and Dance gave them the continuity that was lacking, and them far more enjoyable for me.

Ya but after such a long wait, Martin still really needs a bounce with this next book otherwise people may revolt.

Unpopular opinion: Harry Potter after OOtP, Harry learns he's prophesied to face off against the most powerful wizard alive and spends his 6th year pining after Ginny and chasing Draco when he should've been learning how to battle other wizards.

I actually haven't read them any other way.
