I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on it. I'm gonna pick up the 2nd book this evening.

Finished DCC last Friday I think. Went to Barnes and Noble to buy the second one that same day

Can't believe how much i enjoyed that book. So much so I bought the audiobook and am listening to DCC while reading Carls Doomsday Scenario. I don't think I've ever done that before. Doubt I'll get the audiobook for CDS because it's so short. But Donut might be my favorite audible/character voice ever. Holy crap it's so good. I laugh at just about everything she says, in part because how funny the voice is. Up there with Prince Lasisla in The First Law.

Not sure about discussing spoilers for it here but just in general, it was one of the more fun reads I've read in a good while. Did not think I was going to like the litrpg aspect because like I mentioned, I'm not an rpg/gamer guy in general, but it doesn't really read like a video game to me other than you are just waiting on the next boss. Book has more depth (pun intended) to it than I would have thought.

The final chapter in the book about the goblin Rory has me really intrigued. Have some theories on that one.

Licanius trilogy is a very solid series.

I finished this last night just in time for The Strength of the Few tomorrow. Overall I really enjoyed it. A few nitpicks like saving certain side characters’ story for some alleged standalone novel that is probably years away and not revealing the circumstances around a certain characters death.

Has anybody here read/listened to the Hell Divers series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith? I'm on book two and it's pretty good so far. Read by RC Bray.

I picked up Carl's Doomsday Scenario last week. I had read the first book earlier in the year.

The 2nd book just jumps right into the story. I had to stop and skim the last few chapters of the first book to remind myself what happened.

Read all 7 books in like 2 months. Was the most into a series I’d been in a while since like first stormlight read maybe. Great stuff and the 2nd was probably least favorite, it’s still great.

For the Sun Eater fans, Christopher dropped this video announcing his next series releasing in 2027: The Doomsong Saga

Book 1: The Godstained House

The last Sun Eater book released yesterday as well, but I still have 30% left of The Strength of the Few before I can start it.

I've seen people call Sun Eater a "tough read", what do they mean by that? I've considered starting it but something else always pops up.

I wouldn’t say it’s a tough read. It’s a very dense series when it comes to the world building and timeline. The first book is slow so maybe people are complaining about that. It picks up the pace towards the end of book 1 and the rest of the books are better. I’d give it a shot if it sounds interesting to you.

The first book read like Kvothe in space. I’m caught up and they seem to drag in the middle but he hooks you at the end. He could def cut down the words at time but it’s a good series. Wouldn’t call it great. Glad I read it but probably won’t ever reread if that helps. Will pick up the new book after finishing Shadows of Gods. That is one I’m having a hard time getting into.

I can agree with this. Each of his books are broken up into 3 parts and 1-5 always had one weak part to me. Maybe 2 weak parts in the first. Disquiet Gods was the only one that I felt that didn’t drag.

Currently reading the last book of that trilogy. I'm enjoying it overall, but it's definitely a step down from Gwynne's other works to me.

I've only read the first Sun Eater book so far, but Kvothe in space is a pretty good description. And I agree on the middle being a bit dull. I enjoyed it, but don't think it'll be a series I binge read through. Probably take breaks between them.

Abercrombie announced a Kickstarter campaign for special editions of the First Law trilogy. Looks pretty badass.

I just picked up Shadows Upon Time. I didn’t realize it was over 1300 pages. Nearly twice as long as Disquiet Gods.

That’s concerning cus this trilogy was highly recommended lol. Gonna finish Suneater next. Prob dungeon crawler reread to prep for next book then want to read the guy who did Greatcoats other series. That was a very fun read through and heard his other stuff was good. That and continue Cradle.

It's still a very solid series, I just consider the Faithful and the Fallen series to be really really good. And I seem to be lower on the Blooodsworn trilogy than most.

That Spellslinger series by De Castell is really fun.

I finally hit the 50% mark on the book. Watching the % left in book slowly slowly change as I read it on Kindle is wild. I am really enjoying it though.

One Fantasy book group on Facebook has been pretty good to me on suggestions, like this thread. The Tainted Cup was recommended as a murder mystery fantasy with a Sherlock Holmes vibe to it.

Really cool in theory, especially the magic. The magic comes more from the agriculture, plants, trees, etc than people. But I found the actual mystery to be very bland and the main detective that I guess is the Sherlock of this story didn't really do much investigating other than jut always knowing what happened. Didn't really get the Sherlock vibe from it.

Wasn't in stores anywhere but was free on Spotify and man it has arguably the worst audible narrator I've ever listened to. The dude was so freaking British it was almost hard to understand and his female voices were so bad I struggle with audiobooks to begin with so this was hard to listen to.

About 75 pages left in Carl's Doomsday Scenario. Glad I caved on DCC because it is really good. Such a fun read.
