My biggest complaint about the book is that the computers are static and stupid. I know they said they didn't want AI to run the ship, but the Hail Mary is a technologically advanced ship but doesn't even have an Alexa or Siri?

Just finished the book. Very quick read for me. Super entertaining, hard to tell if its better than The Martian or not. Probably yes, but The Martian was so orginal when i first read it. I really loved how the story switches around past to present and how some things in the past help him in the present. Was so cleverly written. The over analysis of engineering adds a lot to the book (and its uniqueness), but every now and then can get a bit overkill. However, the humor, story, and plot transitions do a lot to help with this for anyone whos not a mechanical engineer.

Whoever made the decision to put that spoiler in the trailer, he sucks.

Glad I read the book before I saw that. This maybe the GOAT Sci-Fi.

Agreed. I'm proud of my brother in law for highly recommending the book without spoiling the second most important character.

Rocky seemed more delicate and agile in the book than shown here. He looks very stiff.

I disagree. The book overall theme is friendship and I think that’s a bigger element to display in the trailer than the “surprise” of Rocky.

Old, reliable technology was mentioned several times

People might have walked into it expecting The Martian again or even Interstellar. Rocky completely changes the tone

A lot of people miss this imo. Between the science, an alien, do we live (?), they miss those points. I thought the ending was obvious when he talked about how little he had on earth. It was a very fine ending

I just finished the book, and I'm really glad I read it before watching any trailers as well.

Very good book, and I have to agree that Gosling looks like he should be excellent in the role of Grace.
