The third book was much better than the second but ends with a pretty big “oh shite!!” moment that we may never get resolved.

I’d definitely read the first, it’s great. Second one doesn’t end with any cliffhanger and is basically a stand alone story that takes place after the first one. But it was decent not great.

I think you can still read the third. It is 100% more open ended than the first two but definitely not leaving you hanging as bad as ASOIAF or Rothfuss

I'd say just the first then stop. Then wait to see if he finishes the series to read anymore. The second isn't bad, but it's pretty average overall. Third is much better, but it's a cliffhanger book.

This thread randomly popped into my head earlier. In the hopes that there was more news on the next novel or the announced novellas, I checked Lynch's multiple social media accounts.

His X account is just a wall of TDS. The last mention of anything to do with Emberlain was August of last year.

His website was last updated October 2024.

The only recent post I could find of his was on his Substack back in February, where apparently people still get covid and it lays them out for multiple weeks.

quote:

I had big plans to come out swingin’ in this, our very disheartening year 2025, but then my wife got Covid for the first half of January, and I got stopped in my tracks by Covid during the second half of the month. Recovery has been slow and frustrating, but in the last couple days, for all my bitching and occasional passing out at odd moments, I think I can say that I really do feel a bit less like I just survived an assassination attempt with some sort of nano-tech designed to unravel my cardiovascular system. I’m taking it easy, resting often, and taking all my supplements. Zinc, iron, magnesium… if I swallowed any more metal I’d be ready to join the Silverhawks. Onward.

We are never seeing the next book.

This guy I legit can't stand this guy. Dude we all know what covid feels like. Nobody thinks you were just passing out at random times and feeling like you were assassinated. You might not recognize what year it is, but by 2025 literally the whole world is familiar with Covid, enough with the sob story.

This is athe same guy that said he writes and edits 1,000's of pages per week but hasn't put a book out in 12 years. I do not believe a single thing he says.

I'm to the point where I enjoy Lies as a great stand alone book but would never buy another book of his unless he finished the series. Which is obviously never going to happen.

The combination of Covid, Trump, and MeToo did this guy in completely.

Rothfuss it was just that he has no idea how to finish and Trump.

Yeah, Rothfuss and Martin just lost their thread and don't know how to finish, and have just been making up excuses for years.

Lynch just legit went off the rails and won't finish because of mental health.

I think the thing that's always amused me the most about the Rothfuss situation is that even if he managed to finish the initial triology, it wouldn't even come close to finishing the story, as it would only catch things up to the current timeline and basically tell his backstory. Though I'll admit I stopped caring all that much about Rothfuss since I thought the second book sucked, and the slow regard or whatever novella was so terrible I didn't even finish it.

Rothfuss backed himself into a corner with insisting on a trilogy and the frame narrative.

He did such a poor job moving the story forward in book 2 that he is stuck with no path to get out of it. It will 100% never be finished

And he's also got a bit of the Martin problem: Everyone has likely figured out all of the secrets

And very similar in that they both are in that situation due to being huge slackers taking forever to put out books. And in the fact that they act like gigantic douchebags to their fans that criticized them for it.

Rothfus is such a piece of shite. Like such a fricking a-hole. Imagine being so ate up with shite and lazy that you can’t finish a trilogy of books in almost 20 years. Not like he’s working on a lot of other things either. He’s just a lazy frick who hates his audience.

Especially considering he claimed he had mostly finished all 3 before they were published and just had to work on adapting and editing.

He despises his "fans" and let's them know that repeatedly. He's also a head case.

Guy is just the worst. If he ever does finish it I will read it though

The Name of the Wind was about as good as fantasy gets. The second wasn't as well received but I liked it well enough.

You would think he's be able to finish since it's only one book left right? Lynch isn't even close to being done, he's got four more.

Eh, it's a story within a story and two books in Kvothe hasn't even caught us up on how he got to his present situation. He has to kill a king and an angel before we even get to the main storyline of the war he started, (I assume by killing the king).

I say this with all honesty, at the time, Name of the Wind was one of the best single fantasy books every written. It is shockingly good.

I still like the 2nd book better than most but it does not measure up
