I was really enjoying his Revisionist History podcast until he got to the golf episode.

I love golf. That episode was on how he hates golf. That wouldnt bother me if he gave legitimate reasons on why he hates golf. The reasons he mentioned applied to like %1 of golfers or %1 of golf courses.

CEO's waste a lot of time on the golf course. Ok, who cares? many of them have worked their way up and have earned the right to play a lot of golf and how many golfers out there are CEO's of major corporations?

He had an issue with the space they took up and thought they could be better used as a walking park or something similar. He went to one gold course in the middle of the week and it wasnt very busy that day. Ok, well how about you go on the weekend and see the number of people out there having fun, hanging out with friends and playing a game they enjoy. Many of them hard working guys that he is trying to take up for. How busy is that park going to be on the weekend? I doubt its as busy as a group of 2-5 on every hole backed up from 7a.m. to 7p.m.

He hatred of golf was basically the same as hating Nike as a whole because you didnt like one line of shoe they put out. Get out of here with that crap.

I haven't listened to that one in a while, but I do remember him bringing up some valid points. I'd have to listen to it again to remember those points though. Pretty sure there was one point about how a lot of private golf courses get reduced property tax rates. Like I think the one he featured didn't pay property taxes at all.

The property tax exemption aspect was the one issue he raised that I could actually follow him on and see both sides of the issue.

The problem was with his other argument: that golf courses occupied space and that there weren’t enough public parks in the town (L.A. I think).

A lack of parks is the fault of many other factors, including the local government’s historical decisions, not the fault of one golf club. And just because that golf club preserved its green space and there isn’t any left doesn’t mean it should have to give it up.

That’s like saying: I ran out of my money because of my decisions, now I should be able to use yours.

a mentor of mine recommended David & Goliath because it had some good points. The book had a few good ideas and points but was awful otherwise.

His arguments and points have no structure or logic.

Lol. That's a pretty cynical but not-untrue view.

I have a love-hate w MG. I couldn't make it through the last revisionist history season. I honestly just got bored of the schtick. I've read most of his books and enjoyed them as audio books while doing other things.

I tell myself he still has some of his conservative roots and is just a tad self-loathing and playing devil's advocate with a lot of his nonsense.
