Looking for good material in any genre - articles or stories- that work for short 1-2 hours of reading. Anyone with good ideas?

If you like Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock Presents, check out short stories by these writers:

Roald Dahl

Robert Sheckley

John Collier

Robert E. Howard wrote all short stories. They are easy to read and range from boxing, to Conan. Most you can read in a few hours, some in less than an hour. He wrote back in the day for fantasy magazines and serials. Fortunately His works have been collected into a series of books that are pretty easy to find.

Hunter S. Thompson - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The chapters can stand on their own. Just sit back and enjoy the writing.

T.C. Boyle's "Stories" is a fantastic collection of his short stories.

The collected short stories of Edgar Allen Poe or Mark Twain are both still surprisingly good. Poe actually created the detective genre and his short story in which he did this is highly recommended. Twain has several fun stories featuring God and the devil (or man versus woman) that are also great reads.

I was going to post this! Makes you wonder, too, what with the looming advances in AI and nanotechnology. Scary story.

A Boy And His Dog was good, too.

The man was a trip. Had dinner in a group with him one night while I was at Centenary.

might check out local used books stores and just find short story collections in one book. a lot are written with one them in mind. horror, mystery, classics, ect. but you can find some from a particular author or ones from a particualar state or region. I've discovered many short random gems this way. for example 'Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories' is a good one for halloween coming up. he read 749 supernatural tales from an array of ghost storytellers at the British Museum Library before selecting 14 that comprise this anthology.
