I find fiction impossible to read, something in my head just feels like it’s a waste of time..

Anyone else experience this?

I find it interesting that my brain is wired this way

I enjoy fiction. I find some can be a waste of time if your reading soap opera type stuff.

Reading something like The Count of Monte Cristo is time we'll spent. It really comes down to what you're reading.

No,

Some books are a lot better than others.

I like history.

I read non-fiction history books and a lot of historical fiction novels.

I find it almost impossible to read non-fiction. I mainly read fantasy and sci-fi because I want a break from the world we live in

If I were to guess, you enjoy reading non-fiction because it’s straightforward. Right or wrong, someone is directly feeding you information. You’re going in already having chosen to consume what you’re being fed. On the other hand, good fiction is intentionally obfuscating the point it’s trying to make in an attempt to challenge you into looking at something from a point of view you might not have otherwise. Fiction might make you uncomfortable because it’s inherently unmoored, and you never know exactly what you’re getting yourself into until you’re already chest deep.

I’m the same way. I like learning and choose topics that I want to learn more about. I’ve enjoyed a few fiction books, but they never seem to jump to the top of my reading wishlist

I think great fiction can teach us more than non-fiction. You should try to lessen this bias and give it more of a chance!
