Do you finish a series before moving on to another book/series?

I was coming in here to say yes, then I realized that I didn't with the most recent series that I've read.

Wheel of Time - I don't know if the show impacted me, but I finished either book 3 or 4 and realized that I wasn't really sure how many books I read and what happened in each book. It all sort of ran together. So, I never picked it back up. I guess my intention was to continue, but I doubt I would have been able to go 13 or so books straight.

Stormlight Archive - I definitely intend to continue this series, but after reading 1,000 pages in Way of Kings, I needed to take a break.

All depends. The Three Body Problem series I read back to back. Same with the First Law trilogy.

Others I'll read a book or two in between.

Depends on a lot of factors.

Is the series complete, or do I have to wait for the next book?

How enthralled am I in the current serious?

Sometimes, even if I am in the middle of a series I love, i just need a break/reset before continuing.

Also depends how much connection there is between books in the series. Like McCarthy’s border trilogy, a very loose trilogy. I read the second book first (not even knowing that it was part of a trilogy) then much later read the first and third book. Do not think it had any impact on the experience.

Anyway, a long winded way of saying I don’t really have rules regarding your question.

Funny, I am taking a break from Red Rising (just finished book 4) and starting First Law.
